I'm as confused as the girls in my sig: how does Liz Phair having three hits = a one-hit wonder? Supernova (off of "Whip-Smart"), Why Can't I? and Extraordinary (from "whitechocolatespaceegg"). Enemies have been made, my friends. The standards are that the only hits that actually count are songs that made the Top 40 in the US. Under those standards, "Why Can't I?" is the only song to make that standard. Granted, it is a very self-centered standard as someone like Julian Lennon and Robbie Williams would be considered fairly unsuccessful under those standards despite their international successes.

Dude had 5 songs in the Top 10 in the US alone. Not a one hit wonder.

I've always loved this song a lot. It was in heavy rotation around the time I started watching MTV heavily, so it takes me back every time I hear it. One of my favorite songs of the 90's.
It's a damn shame that they're awful now.

That definition is so limiting, you have to take other things into account or acts like Jimi Hendrix, The Grateful Dead and Iggy Pop would all be considered one hit wonders despite their legacies as legendary artists.

"We're going to rock down to, E-LEC-TRIC Avenue, and then we'll take it higher." Eddy Grant was actually a pretty successful recording artist in the UK during the 1980s, and had a more successful single than "Electric Avenue" there, and had been a member of the Equals of "Baby, Come Back" fame. Also, one of his songs became something of an anthem for the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa.

You Get What You Give - New Radicals That was the first one that came to mind. Preposterously good album, that, too.

Oh, I agree fully. Some legendary acts like The Ramones don't even qualify as one-hit wonders under those standards. I don't like those standards at all.

I decided to do a search to see if there are any other one hit wonders that I missed (like the White Town song) and came across these two videos. First, this person had way too much time on their hands to compile a list of 100 one hit wonders. Second, I think that they stretched the definition of "hit" to call many of them "one hit wonders". Thirdly, several of those listed don't qualify as one hit wonders (sadly enough, the lovely Liz Phair is not one of them). Still, I decided to post these videos because it is so easy to forget most one hit wonders. Also, why in the hell did they use a Disney edit of Lou Bega's one hit to put in this video? Let the guy have some dignity, man! The hip-hop dance ones are just horrible. In general a lot of crap and meh songs in there, says something when Paris Hilton is middle of the pack.
