Has anyone ever done a mega marathon in a theater before? I've done the entire Nolan trilogy when Rises came out in 2012, but I wanted to ask because I'm going to this next weekend... www.scifimarathon.com/And I've never been to something that's such a long event before in the strictest sense. My friend is the one that got me onto the idea, and she's going with me, but I feel like it could wipe me the hell out by the end of it. The movies are certainly fun, but it's just intimidating to me.

Man, I'd love to go to that. Granted, I've already seen the first 4 movies on that list, but it sounds like it'd be a hoot.
The closest I've done is similar to you, we saw the first two LOTR in theaters before the last one came out. It is a little tough to be sitting that long in a row, but at least there were some breaks between the films No way could I sit for like, 12 hours or so though.

I saw the extended editions of the LOTR trilogy during a limited theatrical run a few years back. Almost 12 hours sitting in a theatre seat... Never again!

I'd love to do something like this, but there's no way I could. My attention span is so terrible, I'm lucky if I can make it through one movie without getting antsy as hell.

I saw Liar, Liar in theaters. I thought it was a marathon, like, 6 weeks. Turns out it was just 90 minutes or so, just feels like six weeks when Jim Carrey is on screen.

For me, I don't know, usually the first movie will be something I already own or something, and can't see a)sitting there that long and b) watching something I could watch at home for free.
For example Cinemark here in town is doing a Captain America marathon when Winter Soldier comes out that starts at 5:30 in one theater or just Winter Soldier in a different theater at 8.
I'll do the latter. I've seen the first Cap twice in theaters and a few times on dvd now, no need for that again.

My wife is a huge Twilight fan so I took her to the marathon when Breaking Dawn Part 2 came out. So I sat with my wife and saw the entire Twilight saga in one sitting. (granted, i had seen the movies before).

Marathons in theatres? How strange, usually they use roads for that. They'd have to run around the place, like...............5,000 times or something?

I was in attendance, and it was outstanding.

My AMC theatre every year does a marathon of that year's Best Picture Oscar nominees right before the Oscars. Ever since the Oscars increased the number of nominees, they've split it into two different marathons.
For example this year one of the marathons was Philomena, Dallas Buyers Club, The Wolf of Wall Street, and 12 Years a Slave on one day, then the next week the marathon was Nebraska, Captain Phillips, Her, American Hustle, and Gravity.
In all honesty if I ever do a marathon at a theatre, it will probably be one of AMC's Best Picture marathons, cause I find I have a hard time finding the time to see all the nominees otherwise.

IF a marathon must be 3 films in a row then no just a twin bill when Disney rereleased Toy Story 1 and 2 in 3d

Happened to be off from work for Regal Cinemas "Thorsday" marathon last year (Thor/Avengers/Thor:The Dark World). I enjoyed it, even though I'd seen the first two several times over.

I remember about a year ago, some theaters held a marathon for the "Die Hard" franchise, which meant all five of them because it was around the time "A Good Day To Die Hard" came out. Of course, for "Live Free or Die Hard," it was the theatrical cut, not the unrated cut. I have seen "Live Free or Die Hard" in theaters, but I would LOVE to see the first three in theaters. If they ever do that, I will leave once it goes to "A Good Day To Die Hard," which I really would not watch again, even though I enjoyed it the night I saw it.
