I moved into my first apartment at 29. I wish I had do e it earlier, but high rent in my home state coupled with bad choices on my part made it so. Loving life on my own.

No to having my own place. Yes and no to it bothering me. I do feel like a failure at times but I also know that if I had my own place I'd be dead. It's living at home with my parents and having them there to talk me down or just steer my thoughts away from the bad that has kept me from killing myself many times. I want to do the "adult" thing and be on my own but as I have gotten more help and started to learn more about dealing with myself and my issue, I know I cannot be on my own that long at this point in time. Sorry for the downer stuff.

I have owned two houses. Sold my first one in a seller's market and made a lot more money than I had ever had thought possible.

No I'm 25 and still live with my parents but I do pay them, help them with the bills etc.... Yeah it kinda bothers me but renting can be pretty damn expensive here in Ireland.

I'm 25 now and technically no.
That said, I've been in college until I was 21 and moved in with my girlfriend (now fiancée) when I was 22.

I haven't lived on my own as I had a roommate for my first apartment and have lived with my boyfriend after that but I have paid rent. We always rent because we are not planning on staying where we are right now. I don't really feel weird about not owning because we aren't ready to stay in a place right now.

I moved out from my parents house to an apartment with my wife (then fiance') when I was 25. Renting an apartment didn't bother me at all. More the opposite. It made me feel like a "grown-up."
My wife and I now, on and off, look around for houses. But when it comes down to buying or renting a house, I would much rather rent. I have no interest in a mortgage, property taxes, house insurance, etc. There's a lot more flexibility in renting IMO.

I have a mortgage, it's not nearly as fun as people make it sound.

Sadly, I both own AND rent. When we bought our house we discovered that there was no buy-out clause in the lease for the townhouse we were living in. Since I am paying for it anyways, I let my stepson move into it, but he will have to move out in May since the lease ends then and I am not renewing it. Maybe we can stop being broke if I am only paying for one homestead.

I've been renting since I left college, except for a brief period of living at home after grad school. It's fine. I certainly could never live at home again, or have a roommate... I love having my own space. I've recently been considering buying something, since it looks like I'll be in this city for the foreseeable future, and that's pretty exciting to me.

No and not really; at least not at 22. I mean, there are some times where I feel like I really should have my own place, but with me not even done with college yet and no money saved up, I'm fortunate that my folks allow me to stay at home. If I were to go out there right now I'd be homeless in a week. If I was 28+ and in the same position, yes, it would bother me very much. My goal right now is to have my own place at around 25. Oddly the same predicament as me at the moment, except I'm trying to get a place before I turn 25.

still live at home, but I just got a full-time gig and I'm going to be living on my own starting in May. I'm renting because it's just me and I don't have anywhere near enough stuff to need a house.

I pay $280 a month for rent on a room in an apartment I have a lease on with two friends. It's four hundred miles from where I live because I couldn't find a bill paying job. It kills me.

I still live at home at the moment
My job doesn't cover the cost of rent/car/shopping. Hopefully I can rectify that in the coming months and I can get a duty that gives me more hours.
I hope to be in my own place by fall.

There's nothing wrong with living with your parents when you don't have a family of your own. There's no need to throw away hundreds of dollars a month on something you don't get to keep or doesn't offer a benefit you can't get otherwise like utility bills or insurance.

I'm 24 and still live with my dad, and I'm unemployed to boot. Been trying to find a job since November of 2012 but haven't had any luck, and until I get a job I can't afford to move out. So not having my own place doesn't really bother me because it's an impossibility at this point.

Can't say I can relate since I've been gone from home since I was 18. I would suggest though for those thinking of moving out try to have a considerable amount in your bank account before you venture out. Something that could keep you sustained for about 6 months or so if you run into any bad luck.

Its terrific to be out on your own, but with economic realities being what they are I don't look down to much on anyone who isn't. I only rent, because I don't know if I WANT to stay here forever. I've lived on both sides of the country, and being tied down isn't something I'm looking for.

It sucks in the sense that I feel like a child still being in the room that I was when I was 8, but also I don't want to invest in such a big thing at my age in a town where I dont want to live the next 20-30 years of my life. I'm hoping to move into a major city once I get a few years of good money and good qualications behind me.
