I've rented apartments/houses since I was 18.
Not owning a place doesn't really bother me though.

No and not really; at least not at 22. I mean, there are some times where I feel like I really should have my own place, but with me not even done with college yet and no money saved up, I'm fortunate that my folks allow me to stay at home. If I were to go out there right now I'd be homeless in a week.
If I was 28+ and in the same position, yes, it would bother me very much. My goal right now is to have my own place at around 25.

Yes,
A little, but rent is expensive in NY and I was unemployed for a number of years so there wasn't much I could do about it.

I own a home, but I don't hold it against anyone who doesn't.
Economy sucks and you don't want to be house-poor. I also don't see a TON of value in an apartment if you know you're planning to live in the area for a long time, since it's just money being thrown away for rent.
Now if you hit over 25 or so, yeah it starts to get a little more "ehhhh you should move out".

Not really. I love my parents and I'm at least trying to get a job (have been off and on since I lost my only job seven years ago). I know I'm not just mooching like some out there that just take advantage of their parents so I don't get bothered by it.

I rented some places when I moved out to Fort McMurray at age 20. I would go back and forth sometimes to my parent's house sometimes on my vacations though. I was living in a bunch of work camps though as well.
On the plus side, at age 25 (well, two months before turning 26), I bought my house that I'm living in. I bought it on February 29th of all days, which is pretty cool. I do enjoy that.

Kind of. Moved away for Uni, share a house with other students, but I stay at my parents every few weeks or so for the weekend. I cook, clean and generally look after myself though.

I own a one bedroom condo in Chicago, which I thought I purchased at the downswing of the housing market in 2009. I paid roughly 115,000.
Unfortunately, the housing recovery has not touched my neighborhood. I have so many foreclosures nearby that my realtor things I could probably only get 80-90 thousand for it at best.

I'm 20 and my friend and I are looking to get our own place pretty soon but it doesn't bother me that I haven't yet, not that I've really had a chance to because I've moved around a lot. I keep to myself, barely eat, never ask for anything, and do whatever needs to be done for my grandmother, like a friendly ghost.

26, still don't own my own place.
I've only rented so far.

I bought my condo last year ... at the age of 33. There should be no rush or pressure to own property. Renting is no reason for people to look down on you.

I'm 26 and I'm renting a townhouse in a perfect location. I honestly don't see myself wanting to own a house unless I get married and want kids. I love living right in the city's entertainment district and the houses here on the grid are insanely expensive.
I'm not going to leave the central city and move to the suburbs just to own a home.

Have my own apartment to myself. Been renting basement suites or having roommates since 17. I love the freedom of my own apartment and I don't see myself getting a house for a while so I can save more money for a better house then get one right away

No and no. 25 already and I still live with my parents, as is my sister who's older... and pretty much all of my cousins. We have jobs or currently studying, mind you. It seems to be a part of Filipino culture I guess. The only times when one of us leaves our parents is due to marriage. For most part, that's the norm.

I've been trying to buy a house for the last two years. It's not an easy/fun process, to say the very least.
As of now, still living in a pretty shitty apartment.
It bothers me that I don't have a house yet. Like I said, I've been trying and I've got close on a couple of occasions. Both times I was 'outbid' at the last minute by another buyer. It's like a real life, soul-crushing eBay. It also severely bothers me that I don't have/can't find a job while my fiancee does and basically supports us. It's a terrible, miserable, humiliating, and depressing feeling. I have a college degree and all of that, there's just no one hiring around here. If someone does hire, since this is a small southern town, they usually hire their friends or family.

I've rented since I left Uni. At first I was doing a lot of temping (a good few years) and as I was moving around the country renting made sense. After that I never really got around to buying a place. I like renting.

I've been living at home since I was 22. It bothers me, but considering how many people are in my position with this garbage economy (coupled with New Jersey's absurdly high cost of living relative to other states) at least I'm not alone.
Seriously a 1 bedroom apartment around these parts is like $1600 a month, if not more. It's about impossible to live on your own without some help (either from roommates, parents, etc.) unless you're ballin'.

After that I never really got around to buying a place. I like renting. I'm kind of the same way. I've looked into buying condos and stuff (I just can't justify buying a house for myself) but I always come back to enjoying the freedom to move around as I please. I've been in the same spot for 5 years now and am getting the itch to look for a new place. Though I'm torn because our rent is pretty reasonable and the area we're in is on the upswing so everyone else's rent is going up. Plus buying a place right now would be ridiculous unless we moved out to the 'burbs - which, no offense to anyone who does live like that, but f*** that.

Not at all. In the current economy I feel the hazards of owning your own home far outweigh the benefits.
As for renting, I moved out of my mom's place when I was 25 and rented with roommates for four years, rented with my girlfriend for another three years, and am back to renting with roommates again. I would definitely prefer to have my own place without having to share it with anyone else, but I live in the 7th most-expensive city to live in in the UK so that's not really an option right now.
