Just kind of randomly came across this and decided to watch it since I haven't seen it for years and years. Of course this isn't Kurt's first actual match in the WWF since he was wrestling at live shows for months prior (including a match with Owen Hart!), but it's his onscreen wrestling debut.
So what are your thoughts on this one and of early Kurt in general?

Weird not seeing any people cheer or anything. I know I didn't remember that at all lol. It's like dead center in the Attitude Era at a major show and Stasiak gets a Conway pop...then Angle gets the same thing! He was obviously coming in as a heel though in sort of a weird way so I guess the awkward crowd response and the boring chants shouldn't be that surprising. However, I think it also speaks somewhat to Kurt's strong personality as even though he was coming in as a heel a crowd response like that could definitely psych out a lesser performer. Instead Kurt went onto have an amazing run and become an all time great.

Wow, Stasiak did NOT sell that Angle Slam at ALL. Yeah, barely stayed down for the three count lol. Also, kind of surprising how much Stasiak is built up in this.

Looking at this it's amazing how good he gotten within two years........I mean by 2001 he was already on the level of guys like Benoit/Guerrero.

Seems weird to see him with a full head of hair. Or any hair, really.

Star quality from day one. Grasped the business perfectly. That in-match promo was a riot.

Seems weird to see him with a full head of hair. Or any hair, really. Yeah, it's pretty astonishing how quickly he balded, necessitating shaving it off a few short years later. Compare that to someone like Dean Malenko, who has been in the same state of hair loss since 1996.

Question, why they didn't tried to portray him as an american hero from the beggining?
The WWF knew that Kurt Angle could be an AMAZING heel or they thought that people will not cheer a guy which gimmick was "olympic wrestler"

I thought he was breath of fresh air to the roster at the time and could see he was a great all-rounder. He made me laugh alot with his little pre match promos and crowd insults even though it was quite basic stuff and I loved impersonating him as a teenager. I felt when he won the WWF title that it was well deserved and his push was booked so perfectly.

I remember watching this as a kid and not having any idea why they were booing Kurt. I saw him as a face for a long time.

Fun fact: this was the first ever WWF/WWE event I ever went to. Won tickets in a flag football raffle.
Anyway, I actually remember this match pretty well. At this point, most casuals (myself included at the time) really had little to no idea on who Angle really was. Truth be told, before Angle did his mid-match promo there were quite a few people chanting "Let's go Red Wings" near my area. The promo seemed to liven the crowd up a bit, but the match was still pretty boring.
The show ended up being a pretty memorable one though since Austin got hit by a car and Big Show ended up beating Rock and HHH to win his first WWF/WWE World title.
