Cody Rhodes defeated Sonjay Dutt for the NEX*GEN championship. That pic just doesn't have the same effect as HHH with his legion of stars.

It took Cody Rhodes winning some random strap for people to start giving a shit about this backwater fed.
But, as usual, for all the wrong reasons.

Cody Rhodes defeated Sonjay Dutt for the NEX*GEN championship. Look at the pain in his eyes on the photo on the right....it's like he's internally screaming: "What the hell have I done with my life??!" Looking at the picture on the right, you just know Cody's about to start crying; and not tears of joy.

Huh, with Jarrett's other "business interests", I'm surprised that title belt is not made of gold.

Cody Rhodes defeated Sonjay Dutt for the NEX*GEN championship. From talking to two friends that were at Wrestlecade, one does promo pics and ringside photography and the other does video work and commentary, the decision to give the belt to Cody was a last minute thing. Seems Jarrett had a long, supposedly a few hours long, talk with Cody and got him to agree to work for GFW.

According to wikipedia the NEX*GEN championship isn't even their top title. The f*** are you doing, Cody?

According to wikipedia the NEX*GEN championship isn't even their top title. The f*** are you doing, Cody? I know. Magnus is the top champion for whatever reason. You think you better your chances to getting that TV deal with Cody as top champion or better yet tape new shows instead of trying to sale year old+ stuff with half the roster gone from them.

So, out of their 4 championships only the NEX*GEN title has had more than a single holder of the title and the last person to hold that one had it for a year.

Global Force is a joke, but why the ragging on Cody? He's a top indie guy who promoters are paying and giving titles too. You think Cody sits around reading forums to see if a promotion is a joke or not? He's just going on to the next town, like wrestlers did for decades.
He's working Japan, ROH, Evolve, TNA, PWG. He may have looked at Jarretts website and been like "Whatever sure. I can make this work."
The whole "he left Stardust to win GWF titles" is so disingenuous. I saw the same thing in the TNA forum. He left a dead gimmick in the WWE to travel the world and grow as a performer and wrestle for every single possible indie.

The problem is more of the fact that some of the things he wanted to do weren't mutually beneficial to all parties. He had his dream match against Kurt Angle in front of drunk & obnoxious fans. He came to TNA just so his green as gourd wife could get a prominent role in a lackluster division & beat the company's top heel act clean on two occasions before leaving. And he now holds the belt of a worthless brand that only does tie-in acts with backyard feds & sells a shady gold scheme. I know we can be excessively hard at times but for a guy who wants to also work big New Japan & ROH shows, as well as Evolve or even Progress, these feel like bottom of the barrel choices.

I know we can be excessively hard at times but for a guy who wants to also work big New Japan & ROH shows, as well as Evolve or even Progress, these feel like bottom of the barrel choices. While I think the Angle/Rhodes match wasn't a bad idea and drew fairly well, I definitely agree with the other two. Also, what kind of impression will those choices give to the promoters of those mentioned organizations? To me, it seems like Rhodes is being a mark for himself, at the same time it doesn't seem like he is bringing in large returns. The WCPW crowd was decent, but that card was stacked. I doubt Rhodes brought more than a extra couple of hundred to GFW. I know he is booked for a one off in ROH, but it would probably be in his best interest to work there and Japan if he wants to keep making money. I'm betting the one-offs are paying well now, but they will have diminishing returns and eventually won't pay squat. The real question is what is the end game?
