This game's been talked about for a significant amount of time since its announcement. It's kind of a callback to old space shooters like Wing Commander, X-Wing, etc. It also has a significant society/trade element that seems to be the centerpiece of the game.
This first video of the dogfight gameplay was just released, and holy hell, this looks astounding. I mean, first of all, the graphics are seriously incredible. It looks nuts. Also, the gameplay definitely looks like a vastly improved version of all those old games. It looks like a hell of a lot of fun.
I can't wait.

Ok I have been wanting a modern space shooter for years!! This has my interest. Those pew-pew lasers need more umph to the sound effect though.

All the aspects of this game seem super interesting. I agree that the lasers need a little more oomph, but this is just alpha footage (which, holy shit, this is ALPHA FOOTAGE), so things will probably be tweaked as time goes on.

Two things:
Haven't watched the video yet--will tonight.
I've always been really interested in a game like this, but have never really had the opportunity to play one.

Both Star Wars: X-Wing and TIE Fighter are pretty highly acclaimed games in the genre, and both are excellent. If you can handle the dated graphics, I would recommend acquiring them. They should work on your computer in compatibility mode, though I could be wrong. I've never tried on anything beyond Windows XP.

After all, the lasers should make next to no sound. While that would definitely be realistic, and it was an aspect I appreciated from Firefly's space scenes, I don't think it would be engaging in a videogame. Of course, I suppose you could probably also just turn off the sound effects.

There would still be cabin noise, your comm, sounds from the controls, a host of other things, and the sound track. Unless, you are in a sealed environment suit. Then, yanno, breathing and your comm.

I suppose so. I still think the lack of noises from the lasers and whatnot would still render the game less engaging, but I suppose that's just a personal thing.

It is, and I can see the point. It's just for me my immersion is ruined by something I know to be impossible. But then a lot of times they don't realistically model physics for space games.

This is actually something they seem to have done quite well here, which is pretty bitchin'.
