Adding to the list for rumored WWF Title reigns: Tito Santana (always claimed it was down to him and Bret for WWF Champ, depending if WWF wanted to expand to Canada/Europe or Mexico/South America- they chose Canada/Europe instead) lol sure Tito, sure.

Lex Luger
It's the most notorious title reign that never was.
And it made a complete mockery of Summerslam 93
It was embarassing for them to have Luger celebrate a countout win like that.

I still think that Summerslam 1993 was a dream I had. Celebrating a count-out victory. Even the 12 year old mark in me thought that was f***ing stupid. Now I'm gonna go watch it on the Network and scream "LUGER, GET HIM BACK IN THE RING YOU STUPID GOOF!"

Eddie was supposed to win the WHC on the SD taping after he died or somewhere around that point.

It certainly looked as if Billy Gunn was going after the IC title in 1999, then he went and won the Hardcore title for no reason and defended it at WM 15. He eventually went and won the belt a year or two later, but still... Isn't the story that Russo talked McMahon into changing it so that Billy won the Hardcore title and Road Dogg the IC title, just to swerve the internet message boards? Billy suffered from "Narcissism", was at a bar the night before RR '99, and started bragging about how he was going to win the I-C belt at the PPV. Because it turned out well for Lex Luger when he did the same thing years earlier.

Butch Reed was supposed to win the IC title but no-showed the event so they went with Honkey Tonk Man. Not exactly- when Honky Tonk Man did win the IC Title, that night's celebration ceremony had Butch Reed celebrating alongside him.

The only one I can think of is Wade Barrett getting the World Title in 2010 and pretty much every year after that.

Alberto Del Rio was rumoured to win the World Heavyweight Title at Extreme Rules 2011 before Edge retired.

There's revisionism, and there's flat-out balderdash. I can't even think about when this could have feasibly been a possibility. The only time they could have ever been considered "equals" was at WrestleMania III: Bret was on the way up, Tito on the way down, headed towards Pedro Morales-level of "former champion now used to put over up-and-coming guys". Even then, Hogan was still the Man. Only guy I can think of that could rival Hogan during his first reign was Junkyard Dog. Tito was good and very popular, don't get me wrong. I was a big fan of his. But, that story. I gotta smack myself in the back of the head to get my eyes back in their proper place.

From what I can recall, apparently there were six guys being considered for the belt (I've never been completely sure as to why Vince was suddenly so desperate to get the belt off Flair, but part of the reason seems to be wanting a changing of the guard to a younger crop of talent). Tito was one of the names that was being thrown about, although you've really got to wonder how seriously he was considered. Bret had built amazing momentum throughout the year whilst Tito was putting over guys like HBK and Papa Shango. And he pre-dated Hulkamania, so wasn't exactly new blood.

I'm surprised this hasn't been talked about more, especially this week:

It certainly looks it; if that's the case I wonder how the producers feel now. But it presents a pretty amazing 'what-if?' scenario.

I always liked to imagine there was no list of six names, Vince just felt sorry for Tito and thought the idea that he was considered for a big push might make him feel better.

Vader was going to win the WWF title at Survivor Series 1996 (not Summerslam).
Bob Holly was going to with the IC title at the King of the Ring 2000.

Obvious reasons why it never happened, but wasn't Eddie Guerrero scheduled for a 2nd WWE Title reign? Depends on who you ask...Batista's biography claimed Eddie didnt want to be champion and the plans were for him to cost Batista the title in a three-way with Orton gaining the strap, though Vince's comments at the press conference following his death hinted the company had planned for Eddie to win it that week I was always under the assumption Eddie was winning that week and Rey was winning the Rumble to face him at Mania. The stories about Vince wanting to change his mind about Rey winning after Eddie died convinced me of it. Wade Barrett/WWE Title Chris Benoit/ECW Title...for obvious reasons

I remember Muhammad Hassan was supposed to at least get a championship match before all the controversy started. That was going to be SummerSlam if I remember correctly, with Hassan going over Undertaker at GAB. I don't remember if Hassan was going to win the title (most likely not).

Hall has came to say that Shawn wanted to drop the title to him as Razor but he talked him out of it because of the schedule and two faces in 96 would have confused the crowd specially with Diesel's uprising... That doesn't make any sense. HBK won the belt at Wrestlemania 12. Hall was already headed to WCW by then. Maybe Fake Razor actually fooled Shawn. He was on a lot of drugs at the time...
