I think it was discussed in news and all, but what was the reason for Swagger coming back out of nowhere and suddenly getting a match for the World title at Wrestlemania?
I remember hearing Jim Ross was looking to give Swagger a big shot, even after his drug bust, but is there any truth to that?

They needed a jobber for Del Rio to beat at mania who could pull off an American man's gimmick and Swaggie got the spot due to process of elimination?

Seems like it was a combination of right gimmick, right time, and WWE's brass liking Swagger and hoping to revitalize his career on the rebound from his time off.

I really wish it would happen again, to be completely honest. I think Swagger is tremendously underrated by a lot of people. Dude can really work in the ring, and he's good on the mic when they're not trying to make him super serious. If he's not a serious WWE WHC contender, at the very least, he's a believable midcard champion.

So, what was the deal with the drug bust? I was under the impression that the drug bust made them really tone the storyline down and shy away from the mainstream attention that the angle was getting, but when it's been discussed in recent months, people bring up that "it wasn't Jack's fault" or something.

Seemed like they were fully behind him and then he f***ed it up. I expected Swagger to win it until then.

I love Swagger, but Jericho vs Del Rio would have been way better.

The WWE caught fire and tons of mainstream press with the Zeb Coulter character. Naturally Jack Swagger gets arrested while the mainstream press was still somewhat covering it. I knew from that moment he'll never taste "main event" level again.

I never saw the appeal in a potential main event run for Swagger either time. They never built him up properly for it, both times it came out of absolutely nowhere, and both times it was a complete flop.
Some guys just aren't good enough to be the main event. There's no shame in it, it's just how things are.

Poor guy came back and had a terrible run of luck, some of it his fault.
First came the drug bust, definitely his fault; then came Wrestlemania where his entrance wasn't even televised, not his fault; then he concussed the current World Champion, Ziggler, with a kick, his fault. He went from winning the Chamber and being a World Title contender at Wrestlemania to slipping back down the card extremely fast.

I remember telling my friend last year during his push that he'll lose to Del Rio at Mania, and than go right back down the card really quick. And that's exactly what happened. And I actually like Swagger, but I just knew that it would happen that way. It's a shame, because I think Swagger is pretty underrated. He's got a good look, is pretty good in the ring, and can be decent on the mic. He's still really young yet though, so he can still do some big things in his career if given the opportunity with the right storyline.

I would like if Triple H put the US title on the line in some unfair match and Swagger got it.
Heyman ridiculed Zeb for not being a winner, so his guy getting the US title might help his defense. Besides, every single champion right now is a face.

Besides, every single champion right now is a face. I wouldn't want Swagger getting a belt until this particular feud is over, because otherwise it's likely the only reason he would win any gold would be just to transition it to Cesaro and that would be a disservice to him.

A desperate attempt to give Del Rio a win at Mania that would help solidify his face turn. That was also why I figured Mark Henry would win the Chamber match so Del Rio could give him the Body Slam and the Leg drop.

I get that, but they seemed to be setting up possibly some matches with RVD, with the non-finish and Heyman and RVD clashing, so I could see the three in a Triple Threat feud, and the US title would kind of tie that together. Of course, I would want Swagger to come out on top of that, over RVD, but I guess that wouldn't give closure to him and Cesaro. Still, I could see something like RVD hitting the frog splash, and when trying to pin, Swagger drags him right off for the ankle lock. Cesaro would be too beat up to break it up, but would be protected in that he'd not be the one taking the loss. RVD would also be somewhat protected in that he'd be getting locked in when he was caught off guard, with it established that the frogsplash takes its toll on the user as well, with the benefit being that virtually no one has ever kicked out of it.

Should have returned as a face, it was a mistake to just bring us Jack Swagger heel persona #5. The fans still cared about him and he is big enough and talented enough to pull it off.
He is an absolute nonentity these days.
