Okay, it's one thing for someone to post something like this on a message board, but I would've thought it would be kind of embarrassing for media to say "Here's this thing that has been publically avaliable for a year, but we just haven't said anything about it until now".

Kind of sad that a man holding such open minded views and supporting this issue in 2014 is still considered to be news. You know, I was going to say that because he comes off as a stereotypical redneck on TV and in real life, but looking back on it, Stone Cold the character may be more liberal than we might think. He won over a younger audience of people with his face turn in 1997, he fought of corporate injustice in Vince McMahon for the rights of others, he stopped the extreme religious-like viewpoints of the Ministry of Darkness, so maybe his views on this are to be expected.

I have to admit, I genuinely thought he was referring to two cats being married until I realised he was using wrestling lingo brother!

One of those articles lists Austins real name as "Steven James Anderson" That is wrong He took his husband's name He supports it because people of the same gender have less problems hitting each other. (ducking)

Yea, I thought he said it a while back. Then again there's people acting like a "Podcast" is a new thing that didn't exist til last year (William Shatner does this on jerichos). Yea podcasts have existed for quite a while (hell Wrestlecrap Radio back in 2005 even!). It's amazing to think how ahead of the curve wrestling has been with podcasting. Obviously the two most prominent are Austin and Cabana, but years before that you had WCW Live, WWE had Byte This, in '99-00 ECW's website had Joey Styles having an audio interview with fellow ECW personalities, the web sites for all the dirt sheets seem to have had some sort of internet radio show (that were archived, so basically a podcast). Plus the above example of Wrestlecrap Radio, it just seems pro wrestling has been way ahead of the pack with this. Which makes sense since when wrestling fans aren't being stereotyped as Cletus The Slack Jawed Yokel, we're being stereotyped as Comic Book Guy. Stone Cold Steve Austin also supports Cougarlife.com and ALPHA BRAIN. But does Cougar Life allow lesbians to patronize their service? Because I'm sure there are younger lesbians who are sick of playing games with girls at the bar and want to meet women who know what they want!

He's basically a redneck Daniel Bryan. Or is Daniel Bryan the hippie Stone Cold Steve Austin?

Considering that being against it will turn you into a sociopolitical pariah, there's really no reason to say anything other than "I agree, yay."

In some parts of the country saying you're against it seems to go over just fine, and saying you're for it seems to get a much rougher response. I went grew up in Central Florida.

While it's true that it's still very much a regional/cultural thing for regular people, if you're a celebrity coming out for traditional marriage can be something of a career killer, depending on a variety of factors.

I was surprised Austin had an opinion on the matter, given that he never knows whether to shit or wind their watch.

I'm not accusing Austin of anything, just kind of wanted to get on my soapbox for a moment. It's great to have people go out and say they support it if they mean it, but since there's pretty much a knife to someone's throat if the question is posed to them, it feels like the atmosphere is somewhat lacking in sincerity.

Homophobia in sports is a still a big deal so the more news coverage disclaiming the neanderthal jock stereotype the better it is for the younger generation of kids who want to play sports. I still don't get homophobia. Nothing about it makes any sense at all. I remember in school when someone would be labeled (against their will) as "gay" and all the sudden, other people would be like "whoa, stay away from me". Like, are you afraid that you're going to "get it" or are you afraid of getting raped? Like, this confuses me to no end. I could go on and on, but I don't know what falls under the rules here as far as this goes.

I think it all comes down to these guys assuming that if another man is gay, that they have no self control and will try and put their willy up their poopchute. Meanwhile they all go fap to lesbian porn online.
