the hour plus podcast that dedicates at least 30 minutes to sponsors? I love Austin & when he's not shilling (I understand WHY it happens...doesn't make it less aggravating though) his podcast is aces. His recent 2 parter with Heyman was pure audio GOLD. Personally, love the shilling. When it's him doing it. Listening to Steve Austin Talk about Sherry's Berries > Trojan Man commercials. Austin is a natural shill, especially compared to JR and Jericho. JR sounds like he's totally lost, as if he's never heard of the products he's shilling (probably the case), much less understands them (definitely the case), while Jericho shills like a 1980s happy hour DJ. The shilling itself doesn't bother me as much as the timing of it. In an hour-long show, there's usually shilling at the start, then every 15 minutes, and then some more at the end. I get why they break it up like that, but frankly I'd be happy to pay to get an ad-free version of each show.

Now, I listen to the Steve Austin show because it helps me sleep. Which is not a knock on the show, because sometimes it has the opposite effect--I love it. Most of the time I fall asleep during the shilling. ALPHA BRAIN KETTLE BELLS COUGAR LIFE! But at least he's into it. JR--bless his heart--wants you to think he's being genuine. I'm not saying he isn't, but if he is then I'd hate to hear what he sounds like when he's being fake. Do you really think that there's like half an hour total of the advertisements? I would have thought maybe 10-15 total.

I would have thought maybe 10-15 total. I'd say about 20 minutes tops. The ads at the start and end usually take up about six minutes each, the others 90 seconds to three minutes each. That's not so bad with the Heyman and Hayes interviews, since each one is 90 minutes minimum, and there's longer spaces between the ads, but for the shorter ones it really grinds my gears. I think JR would sound a little more convincing if he didn't keep using the "I personally checked these guys out and use their products" schtick, as I listen to ten different podcasts produced by PodcastOne, and literally every single one has the same group of sponsors. I'm sure if I only listened to JR's show I'd be more convinced.

I saw that it was trending yesterday and looked at an article or two and realized Austin didn't say anything new on the subject. The article was about his comments FROM JULY OF LAST YEAR! I was thinking, "Why is this news now?" At the time Austin made the comments it was coming off a number of state legislatures extending marriage rights. In other words, it was very timely when Austin commented on it. Yet his comments don't make 'news' until almost a year later when the overall news on the political/social topic is not quite in the news as much as it was when Austin made the comments. To be honest, articles like the ones that covered Austin's comments really bother me, much in the same way that stuff from cracked and buzzfeed bother me. The overall tone of the writing and the headlines just seem so amateur and poorly thought-out. Also, there is often very little to the "news." These sites are starting to effect other news sites as Huffington Post is becoming a lot like them. Okay, sorry for the rant. I figure it was brought up now in light of the whole X-Men director Bryan Singer's thing.
