Has anybody said anything about Samoa Joe? His stuff looks stiff but I never recall anybody saying he was. Was he that good at making it come off that way or way he? I know Low Ki was stiff and took what he did extremely seriously. Joe is pretty damn stiff when he wants to be. Kevin Steen asked him to give him his best shots and not hold back in a match they had. Steen called it one of the worst beatings of his entire career. In their old ROH Joe/Punk Shoot video Punk looks directly at the camera and says that it's all a lie and that Joe's hits only looked bad. To not believe what you hear. That could have been Punk being Punk though as Joe was sitting next to him laughing at the time.

adding Yokozuna to the safe list if all stories about him being gentle in the ring are true While he may have been safe with full time roster members, didn't Yoko drop his full weight onto more than one jobber? Some of his Banzai drops back in the jobber squash show days looked like he made no attempt to protect the guy.

I think we're drawing erroneous conclusions from Lance's stories.
What we should conclude is that LANCE STORM FEELS NO PAIN.

According to Bret Hart, Bret Hart is the safest wrestler ever and has never hurt anyone.

I've heard Goldberg has legit ended a guy's career with a kick. Can't remember who. A Canadian guy or so something, so probably no one important.

I'm pretty sure it was Lance Storm that said that Hogan was so safe that he would let him punch his children. "I would let Hulk Hogan punch my 4 year old in the face" is one of my all-time favorite wrestling quotes. And for all the grief he gets politically, I've never heard of an instance where anyone complained about Hogan injuring someone or working stiff. Well there's just that one time he killed André the Giant with a body slam but that was an accident, you can ask to the 2,443,789 fans who witnessed it live in the Pontiac Super Dome they would tell you so.

I'm going to assume that Cena is super-safe as his STFU and his 'punches' do not look like they'd even break the skin on a rice pudding.

Naw, there's been times Cena legitimately knocked out people with the STFU namely Edge and Umaga. That's the reason why he is so light when applying the move nowadays.

Vader was obviously stiff with strikes, but I believe it was Flair who said that everything else, he never felt. In Edge's book, he said he was worried to take hits from Vader, but found him to be lighter than even Christian.

Bobby Eaton was said to be "a night off" because of how light he worked whilst still making his matches look good.

As far as hard-hitting indie guys go, Chris Hero's strikes always look smooth enough to seem real, but safe enough so that you don't feel guilty watching them. Low Ki's stiffness is dangerous and pathetic: www.youtube.com/watch?v=doFW2z8B9ZMJesus. I was watching an interview with Raven (I think, anyway), who said something like "wrestling is about looking like you're hurting someone. Where's the talent in *actually* hurting someone?"

I've heard Cornette say (and I believe he was quoting someone else but I can't recall) that wrestlers used to not hurt each other and everyone believed they were now they actually do hurt each other and no one believes. Speaking of Cornette, I'm listening to Tommy Young on his podcast and he's talking about how gentle/safe Abduallah the Butcher was with him.

Jericho mentions he worked pretty stiff in a match with Foley and Foley told him he didn't care, but other guys would, which Jericho took to me he needed to lighten up. Yeah a lot of guys from Canada and the US that got their big breaks in Japan tend to be rather rough in the ring because the Japanese wrestlers tend to work stiff... There's also the case of promoters wanting their young boys to get their asses kicked as well. Most wrestlers seem more bothered by guys that were reckless in the ring more than guys who are stiff. Most stiff workers just expect to get hit just as hard.

I may get my ass kicked still, but that bullshit wouldn't just happen to me without an attempt at retaliation. Again, this is if I were a trained wrestler. As it stands in real life, I know Low Ki would probably have me eating pudding for a few weeks in a matter of seconds.

According to Bret Hart, Bret Hart is the safest wrestler ever and has never hurt anyone. He never hurt anyone so that they missed time. He tells a story where he heeled Macho in a match and hurt him, but Macho didn't miss one match. Sorry that Bret works safe and he knows he does and for some reason that offends you. He also said something to the effect of when he was wrestling Foley he hoped he kept the crazy shit to a minimum, then once in the ring, realized Foley never once put Bret in danger, but only put himself in jeopardy.

Besides Vince who's not a real wrestler, Heath Slater was the only guy Bret trusted enough to get physical in the ring with when he came back. Hell that's probably why he got the spots to work with the old legends during the 1000 Raw buildup, he's reliable to sell for them and safe enough so they won't get hurt.
