I love RVD, but no way would I want to deal with his kicks for 15 minutes a night. For example www.dailymotion.com/video/x2y1f5_edge-vs-rvd_sportThe MITB WM23 Qualifying match between Edge and RVD. I absolutely love this match and feel it is underrated in Raws history, but god damn did RVD stiff the hell out of Edge all match long!

Samoa Joe is pretty rough. i remember him tearing AJ Styles' lip during one of their matches. not to mention AJ himself can be pretty stiff at times.

On the "is Joe stiff or not" debate, it should be pointed out that Joe and AJ are really good friends - and wrestling has a hell of a tradition of best buddies stiffing one another ruthlessly.

Jeff Jarrett strikes me as seeming very very safe in the ring. A little too safe, honestly, a lot of his offense didn't look like it would hurt anyone.

Shawn Stasiak had a reputation for working stiff.

Vader was obviously stiff with strikes, but I believe it was Flair who said that everything else, he never felt. In Edge's book, he said he was worried to take hits from Vader, but found him to be lighter than even Christian. That's not saying much, because Christian's punches were said to be like rubber mallets in that book.

In general, the phrase, "Being safe" in wrestling is synonymous with "Good worker." As others have said, the whole point is to make it LOOK like you are hurting your opponent without really doing so. Being stiff just to get your jollies is not "manly," its' unprofessional.
This is a great example. Bobby Eaton has been mentioned by more of his coworkers than any other in the past 30 years as being a great worker and very safe. All the truly "great" workers could work safely, Ric Flair, Bret Hart, Terry Funk, Shawn Micheals, etc Some of them occasionally worked stiff for a purpose. Flair opened up on Vader in the early 90s to let him know he wouldn't be pushed around. Terry Funk could slug it out with anybody when he needed to. All the old NWA champs were prepared to shoot if an opponent went into business for themselves.

Both Big Show and Orton have gone on record (Wrestling with Rosenberg and Sam/NotSam respectively) in stating the Sheamus has a knack for making everything look rough, but can leave you feel nothing for it.

According to Lawler on the Steve Austin Show, Dolph Ziggler's elbow drops are so stiff that they quite probably caused him to have a heart attack.

In general, though, the chest is considered a "safe" place to hit harder than others. And, I thought the elbows sped up the heart attack, not directly causing it.

That actually shocks me due to how loud that in-the-ropes chest clubbering thing can be, and due to images like this...

I'm not an expert on the science behind it or anything, but I seem to recall Lawler's explanation was that the blows to the chest caused his heart to beat out of rhythm and that was the direct cause of the heart attack moreso than any other medical issues. I also seem to recall Lawler more or less thought this personal health had little to do with the situation. I may be misremembering a touch, but he was politely quite critical of Ziggler in the interview when he said something to Austin like "Remember when we used to do moves and it only looked like they hurt?".

To me it always looked like Hennig worked safe and light. Didn't really lay in his punches. But his chops could be brutal, but punches light as a feather.
Andre was selective. Guys he didn't like he would wail on.

Andre the Giant was extremely safe. I've heard stories about how Andre's offense looked weak at times because Andre was very scared he would hurt someone.

I also seem to recall Lawler more or less thought this personal health had little to do with the situation. Doctors put stents into him to open up blocked arteries; you don't get blocked arteries from taking a few elbow drops. He's a 60+ year-old man who has a poor diet and minimal exercise regime - he was having a heart attack regardless of how stiff Ziggler's elbows were. Maybe the elbow drops did contribute to the heart attack, but they sure as hell weren't the primary cause of it.

i'd love to have been a wrestler in World Of Sport, there was a lot of safe workers there, mind you they did have there tough blokes but no one ever seemed to have got the crap kicked out of them for doing something "to the boys in the back!" They were just hard men.
It seems that the North Americans and British lads who went to Japan came back wanting to kick the crap out of people and this has now filtered down through wrestling as something cool, much like hardcore wrestling.
