2 Cold Scorpio did one in ECW, beating Jericho in Jericho's last match there. That was 1996, so that might be before Kidman. He also used to break out a 450 splash and a moonsault leg drop in ECW. I can't recall seeing anyone else do a leg drop like that. Scorpio was incredible, really. I doubt he ever did it on TV but Bret Como was one of the first westerners to do the SSP in the early nineties.

I don't think we can talk about highspot pioneers without mentioning Antonino Rocca. He's a name I see mentioned occasionally, but I've never seen any of his work. Do you have any suggestions where to look? I don't know how much of that era of the Montreal territory was taped.

Urban legends and a Memphis YouTube video featuring Ken Raper in the same thread. The first use of fluorescent light tubes in wrestling was in the WWF, rather than any death match style promotions. During the Taker vs Mankind boiler room brawl match right?

Yes. I've always laughed when those who are vehemently against death match style wrestling try to claim that groups that do that sort of thing aren't real wrestling promotions, since the most mainstream, largest company was the one to do it first. Not to as violent of an extent, obviously, but they were the "innovators" of that sort of thing.

Wasn't Billy Kidman the first guy to bring the Shooting Star Press to US TV or did someone else do it first in the states? 2 Cold Scorpio did one in ECW, beating Jericho in Jericho's last match there. That was 1996, so that might be before Kidman. I also seem to remember Marc Mero doing one after he debuted for the WWF in 96, havn't a clue if he used it before that as Johnny B Badd. I also recall loving his move here he would stand on the top rope and jump/turn 180 and moonsault although in retrospect looking back over his stuff years later alot of stuff he did seemed sloppy and dangerous in it's execution.

The legendary Tupelo concession stand brawl and some "sequels" to it were definitely some of the forerunners of what became ECW and hardcore wrestling. Memphis was a pioneer in and of itself as you state in a lot of ways, and a lot of it rubbed the other territories wrong. The use of celebrities, the early hardcore stuff, the title hotshotting, constant face/heel turns (though usually they had reasons unlike Russorific), a LOT of shooting on the other territories, the goofy gimmicks...they may not have necessarily been the first to use any of those, but man did they really put a lot of it on the map. That's funny because I was watching Uncensored '95 last night. They were in Tupelo and Harlem Heat/Nasty Boys had a big concession stand brawl. I didn't even remember the other concession stand brawl being in Tupelo. Also, anyone remember in '93-'94 when Vince and Gorilla identified a "moonsault" as any move that had a flip or a spin in it?
