LONGTIME WWE ANNOUNCER GONE FROM COMPANY

PWInsider.com has heard from several sources that Josh Mathews was let go over the last 24 hours. His profile has already been removed from WWE.com, although the company has not yet acknowledged his departure. His profile is now in the alumni section of the website.

Mathews has been with the company since the original Tough Enough reality series on MTV and had been doing announcing as well as hosting the WWE Network's Raw, Smackdown and PPV Pre and Post Show panels.

He was just trying to do his job!

Shame. Always liked him as an announcer.

No big loss, they have so so many backstage interviews that I lose track of who's doing what now.

I like these budget cuts, finally things will become more cohesive.

He lasted a hell of a long time.

I never really minded Josh. He was mostly...ok. But he eventually turned into Cole lite on commentary, and they've got Renee, Byron and Tom Phillips who are all better interviewers so I can't say I'm surprised if (/that) he's gone.

I wasn't a big Josh fan by any means, but I hope this is a case of him asking to be released from his contract rather than WWE choosing to release him.

I knew they were trying to get rid of him since he stopped announcing, full stop.

Renee being awesome probably didn't help his case but JBL really seemed to loathe him when they did shows together. He's not the loss Striker was at one point.

Wonder where Matthews will pop up? I doubt he's "done" with TV in general. He's good enough.

Josh was a pretty damn good in any job they gave him. Who is going to host the Pre and Post-Shows now? Most likely Renee, but also possibly Tom Phillips.

Personally, I'd love it if Scott Stanford got the nod.

Was better than Byron Saxton is now. Still, Renee has stood out for her backstage interviews, so Josh was no longer needed for that. And did they really need Mathews for Backstage Pass/Pre-shows? Not really. Still, he's better than some of the new commentators they are trying out.

Thank the Lord he will not be on Raw again. Him and Todd Grisham were the absolute worst backstage interviewers ever (actually, Grisham was the very worst). I liked Mathews on commentary, but when it came to those backstage segments, which were where I saw him most, he was just made out of cardboard and I wanted to throw rocks at him.

I'd like Renee as well, mostly because I'd rather Tom stay in his current position as the Superstars/Main Event announcer.

Well, they are grooming 7 billion people in NXT to be announcers so I think they can afford to lose a few. I hate to see a dude lose his job but I never really thought of him as anything special as far how good he was at what he did.
