I'm about halfway through, enjoying it so far. Like that they take their time in setting the stage instead of diving straight into Nitro's launch.

Great first episode, if I can nippick a bit, they did undersell JCP, they just mentioned it as a wrestling company that was in financial toruble that Turner bought, not mentioning while the WWE was more successful, better production value, the wrestling on JCP was superior. I wached episodes from WCW (the show) from 1985 and 1986, it is way better wrestling than what was on WWF tv at the time. But that is irrvelent to the Monday Night Wars, but just saying.

Not a bad start. I thought they would have mentioned the steroid trial though. Was that before the start of Nitro? Wasn't that one of the reasons Hulk left??
Anyways Bischoff isn't involved with TNA still right? Not that all his speaking bits were recycled as I did see some new stuff but surely they can bring him in now right Instead of replaying the same stuff we've seen already

I was impressed that they got new interviews with Tony Schiavone and Stu Saks. I wonder if Tony will give his thoughts on the night Mick Foley won the WWE Title.

YEs the new interviews with everyone really impressed me too. It's too bad Bischoff wouldn't do some. The additions have been great. I was worried it would just be the documentary recut,

Far as anyone knows Bischoff isn't in TNA anymore, but I think most of the interviews were filmed a year or so ago.

I liked it, but it could have been better. The Road to Summerslam was better. They did show a lot of the same stuff. I did like the new interviews they added, and it was good to see Luger. I wish it went more in-depth, though. They cover all the same landmarks and mud - slinging (bitter much, Vince?) that has been re-hashed a million times and gloss over the smaller details. It could easily be argued that no one wants to know about Lex Luger walking out, and it would be more interesting if they covered the details. How did Vince feel about WCW going towards a faster pace? Did Bret Hart think WCW would ever be a viable option in say 94, to the point that he would sign there in 3 years? Instead, let's talk about Hogan signing for the billionth time. Just my thoughts.
Was that new Harvey Schiller footage? I always find that funny, that he's always fine with talking about his association with the wrestling industry when so many around him at Turner thought they were above it. If anyone should feel above anything, it's the guy with a friggin Doctorate who is a higher up at the America's Cup. That is true upper crust. But instead, he just pops up whenever, even though it's not really expected of him.

Did Bret Hart think WCW would ever be a viable option in say 94, to the point that he would sign there in 3 years? Supposedly at one point Bret was about to leave with the Intercontinental title and Vince just barely talked him out of it, which was part of the concern over Montreal. Forget where I first read that. What I'm wondering is, when they reach the DX invading Nitro part of the timeline, will they just declare WCW died the next day and WWF had to change to WWE because there was no way they could ever live up to a moment that amazing so they had to change their name to distance themselves from it?

I heard that they changed the bit about what RAW was pre-empted for on the day of the first Nitro. They now say RAW was just pre-empted (not saying it was for US Open Tennis), and took out the incorrect fact about the Westminster Dog Show.

Good because all loyal Raw viewers know that February gets screwed up because of those damn dogs.

Oh shit, I've seen the Rasslin' War Room skits a million times and never noticed Russo played one of the excecutives around the table until I saw it back to back with Russo's appearence as a talking head.
Weird seeing Stu Saks do an on camera interview. I've only seen Bill Apter do on camera appearences representing wrestling magazines (I've seen plenty of dirt sheet writers appear on screen, but Apter is the only one from the magazine contingent I've seen). So much so that I thought Bill Apter was the only flesh and blood human(oid) that worked for PWI, The Wrestler,Inside Wrestling, Wrestle America, etc. I know they showed an old PWI cover (or atleast a mock up that turned the block WWF logo into a block WWE logo) of the inter-promotional war, but I'd like to see Stu Saks go a bit deeper into how much mileage the "Apter Mags" got out of all the "which promotion's better?" cover stories they ran.

Vince comes off like such a hypocrite here with the whole crying foul about Bischoff giving away results with his "Oh we promote ourselves instead of badmouthing the competition." Technically on screen he is right but Vince did more to destroy the wrestling business than any other man on this earth, essentially wrecking smaller territories by buying up timeslots at first, then by crapping all over Crockett by running Survivor Series and Royal Rumble opposite Starrcade 87 and the Bunkhouse Stampede. Crockett's response was to do the Clash in March 1988, but cable companies were irate with the NWA for doing that. Vince even threatened cable companies who carried Starrcade with no WM the next year if they carried Crockett's show.
All the Luger discussion is hilarious on this show. I suppose it was all due to him agreeing to talk on it. To me, Luger was utterly buried for the 2nd half of 1994 and all of 1995 in the WWF and going to WCW was the obvious logical move. I didn't even think him being on the first Nitro was any big deal. I was like "Oh, Luger is back in WCW." The key is that WCW proceeded to book him 10x better from 1995-97 than the WWF ever did.
Therein lies the problem with all of these WWE produced documentaries. They NEVER truly discuss that the WWF product of the mid 90s was largely awful and the stupid gimmicks and storylines drove people away from their show to WCW. They will discuss the moves Bischoff did right in the mid 90s, but not what they were doing that sucked. They don't want to admit "We had Nash and he sucked as champion, but they took Nash and drew huge with him." Curiously, they also paint a rather interesting picture of WCW, crediting their success almost entirely to the Hogan signing and yet if you go and watch these shows you'll note that WCW was actually a far better product during the 1992-94 time period than the horrible dreck they produced once Hogan arrived. Of course, it didn't help that they lost Rude and Steamboat to career ending injuries in 1994, and Foley quit as well, but they also completely buried solid workers like Austin and Pillman. I think 2 Cold Scorpio also quit sometime in 1994. WCW was like a dead zone for most of the post Hogan/pre NWO era.
