Honest to God, we must have this same conversation about twice a week in here. Clearly we should be saving room for the most recent "Del Rio/Miz/Cena/Kane suks" thread. God knows we haven't had enough of those, no it's another Ryder thread that's pushing the bounds of decency. >_> That would probably be true IF Mick Foley were to show up on Raw ... but that ship seems to have sailed, at least for now. Read his words: "Really look at it. Look at me, still important enough in the company's eyes to be part of an in-ring celecration." The company "eyes" him differently now. If he's trying to get Ryder over, why does he want us to look at him and why does he remind us that he was relevant at that time? So he's trying to get himself over, using Ryder as a prop, to get people on internet message boards or those who read his blog to say, "Yeah, Foley would still get great reactions if they used him. Why ISN'T he getting that chance?" LOL too at the part of how much "fun" Punk seems to be having. I see two guys -- Foley and Ryder -- hamming it up and having a great time, and a third -- Punk -- looking like he'd rather be anywhere else. Eye of the beholder and all that. He frames the "look at me" comment in the context of being a popular Long Island wrestler being part of a celebration putting over another. As for Punk, he looks fine. It's called deadpan. There's a difference between reading between the lines, and simply seeing things that aren't there. Better still, that "look at me" line seems much less like "please care about me" (as if Foley needs to care about him, unlike certain others *cough*Triple H*cough*), so much as "look at me, this old grizzled veteran enjoying being here because I'm happy for Ryder." Same with his reference to Punk; the whole last paragraph is to highlight the fact that even though their stars are already high in the sky, they're happy with the prospect of Zack's getting off the ground - a prospect the WWE spiked in very little time. Why they did is anyone's guess: Maybe he didn't fit the look - shoulders weren't big enough, didn't have enough of a bodybuilder's physique or whatever. Regardless, when someone is as over as Ryder, even without your help, you're not supposed to diminish it to spite them, the fans and yourself. You ride with it - that's what people who know how to make money do! A certain line about Vince being a millionaire when he should be a billionaire comes to mind...

Mick Foley is a tad upset that WWE won't pay him to ... pretty much do whatever he wants to do. Read the last paragraph or two of that rant and you'll see it's all about Mick, woe is Mick, poor Mick, and that all he's doing is using Ryder's "sad tale" -- which he knows will resonate with the IWC -- to get himself over. He's a real life version of "old Man yelling at cloud"

Ryder blows. I was a fan and it sucks what happened with him getting over and then the push being botched, but he had a low ceiling to begin with (comedy gimmick, mediocre talent) and his constant whining and push me trunks certainly lead to some spiteful lack of TV time and im ok with it.

His whining wasn't without merit. It was a stupid thing for WWE to do because it almost certainly would have had a demoralising effect on others.

He whined after they derailed his push for no frigging reason. What was he supposed to do? Smile and say "Gee, thanks for killing my career and losing a ton of merchandising revenue!" It was a boneheaded decision and nobody benefitted from it. Ryder didn't need to be a main eventer, but that doesn't mean he should be jobbed out for no reason.

What really confuses me is that people really liked Zack Ryder, especially on the internet. Hell, it was the internet that got him over. Now that he's been buried and isn't really over, many say they've always hated him or that he sucks. It feels like a group of friends pretending to forget about an ex-friend that isn't "cool" anymore or whatever.

I thought the Youtube show sucked from the get-go; and that he always should be in the Santino sorta role at best. Not everyone was chanting "WE WANT RYDER."

I wouldn't be surprised if the whining Ryder stuff is part of WWE creative's 'plan' for him, I mean, does anyone think a lowercard guy could get away with bitching and moaning about his treatment in public without any consequences? They made him look like a loser on TV and they're making him look like one off it using the medium he used to get over in the first place to make sure there's never a chance of 'we want Ryder' chants should they fire him.
What can he do, really? Quit and he's done in wrestling, he'll make okay money in the indies for a short while but his 'push' left him severely devalued, but if he stays and does what they ask, he could be like Funaki, Val and Scotty 2 Hotty and job seemingly forever, making good money as he was once in an interesting angle.

Or perhaps he merely shares the opinions of people who think that WWE's booking is terrible. Except he wasn't saying it when he was under contract. And he has sorta done a 180 on Bryan saying that the fans weren't fair to Batista after the Rumble.

I don't understand how fans can mercilessly chastise WWE Creative and at the same time deride Zack Ryder for "doing all the right things", unless you just flat out don't like him or suffer from some serious cognitive dissonance.
How many examples do we have of talents being bumbled and fumbled around by bad writing at all talent levels? Yet somehow, the guy who actually went above and beyond to prove his worth is the one that gets the most hate.
This is some serious Internet Wrestling Fan Self-Hate.

When he was under contract he'd be liable to suffer for saying outright negative things that may breach his contract. Like, I'm STILL not allowed to discredit/moan about practices in certain workplaces (that I no longer work at) on social networks or blogs for the same reason, imagine that with the WWE and it's clearly going to be a bit harsher. And people's opinions can change, or maybe he wanted Bryan (the most popular guy at the time with no doubt) to win the Rumble over anyone and for fans to not quite rip on Batista as much. Those opinions can co-exist.

True, not everyone had to like him, but people supported him back then, and not as many say they always hated him than they do now.
