I think another part of it is the fact it's made a whole bunch of people think they're "nerds" because they watch it and the Avengers. Lord knows there's a lot of it on my Facebook. Seems to offend the folks who're classical nerds.

I love Big Bang Theory. I know nerds rage over it because it supposedly "mocks" them, but who gives a shit? Everyone needs to laugh at themselves every now and then because we're all pretty ridiculous.

I'll admit I do like this show for what it is. Is it my favorite show ever? Not even close. Are the characters annoying at times? Absolutely. But for whatever reason I find myself always coming back to watch it.
I guess it's mainly because of Amy and Sheldon, who are both very good in their roles. The latter especially. And the other characters have their moments too.
That said, I can understand why some people despise this show.

Honestly, if Sheldon had any growth... it'd kill the show. If he grew, by now... he'd be engaged, if not married to Amy. He'd be accepting of others, and would basically just have random callbacks to his nerddom when a new video game or comic book movie comes out.
They already have Leonard for that.....

I like the show. I don't take the humor on it personally. The fanboy-culture circlejerk folks here would dig wouldn't get ratings. I have this perspective. First it's a sitcom, characters are exaggerated. Second, when about almost everyone on the show is Skreech/Urkel you are going to get proportionately more nerd jokes. Finally, Sheldon is not autistic, those involved in the show have said so. His quirks are comedic fair game. No he's not the most likeable character but hell Archie Bunker was quite possibly the best sitcom character ever and he was a grumpy bigot.

You know, I never understood all the BBT hate. It's certainly not the greatest show on Earth, but I never thought it was the worst. I can catch an occasional episode here and there and enjoy it well enough. I have no interest in watching it religiously, but it's at least a good, random time killer. 1. It makes all people who are interested in science, mathematics, comic books, science fiction, toy collecting etcetera as anti social freaks who can't relate to other humans. 2. Sheldon is horribly unlikeable and the character is written in such a way where he is never shown any growth. 3. Sheldon displays vaguely autistic like anti-social behaviors and they are written as jokes instead of as a serious matter. Ha it's funny because he can't read social ques and said something in appropriate! That's not funny, that's mocking people that really have those issues to play it for laughs. I agree with all this and Sheldon uses Internet Explorer on his alienware computer. What kind of shit is that!

If you want a way better show about nerds, try Silicon Valley. Big Bang Theory is so broad in its humor that I just can't get into it. It doesn't really offend me or anything, just don't vibe with it. The laugh track is offensive though. Every line is getting a laugh. I can handle a laugh track but they overuse it.

I like BBT but I do think it has run it's course and it's time to pull the plug on the show.

I will always have a soft spot for Mayim Bialik, so whenever the show ends, I hope she gets work.

Yup, it's always been live studio audience for everything except the location scenes (which total about three a season).

Well, even if Jim said no, they do have an out for his character. He was left at the train station. He could just be a non-existent character that occasionally sends a wire to the gang.

Add me to the list that doesn't understand the vitrol that the show earns when it gets brought up. Not liking it is one thing, plenty of popular stuff that I don't like but damn does it invoke some strong feelings
Yeah it pokes fun at the geek culture, but I'm sure we've all came across a fanboy or 2
Yeah in real life these people would not be friends with Sheldon but it's not real life, and I like that these characters somehow put up with it.

Sheldon is offensive to me personally as someone on the autism spectrum. And I don't give a damn what the creators actually say, I despise the character and the show.
It's too bad because I like Kaley Cuoco.

My wife and I love the show and have seen every episode. Sheldon is a funny character and if he left, the show wouldn't be the same. I knew this thread would get haters.

I love Big Bang Theory. I know nerds rage over it because it supposedly "mocks" them, but who gives a shit? Everyone needs to laugh at themselves every now and then because we're all pretty ridiculous. I'm not one of the people who's angry at the show for that, but I think it's more that the mockery is pretty much inaccurate bullshit. I remember the only joke on there that ever DID actually piss me off was when they were playing Halo and the blonde bimbo character (and to be fair, blonde bimbos should be mad at this show too!) said something like it looked like a pretty good video game, to which Sheldon said it wasn't a game, it was a combat simulator. Bull. Shit. Nerds, or this particular type of nerds, are gamers, not f***ing imbeciles. Have you ever - and I do mean literally ever - met someone who corrects you when you refer to a game as a game, to refer to it as something else? Do these people exist? And even if they do, they are by far not the majority. Some parts of it are pretty good parodies of nerdishness, but it's also kinda dumb to do that anyway given that geeky things are at an all-time high of coolness what with all the comic book movies, bronies, nerdy Raybans being in style and all that shit. I think the most frustrating thing is just how much better it could be. Futurama tosses off a few jokes at the expense of its own viewers, and they're always spot on parodies of what those people are actually like and so they don't get the hatred in response.

The hate for BBT has always baffled me but then I'm not really into most of the stuff the characters are into on the show so...yeah maybe that's why I like it. Of course there's no way I would put it up in the same league as a classic like Father Ted or Blackadder but it's enjoyable all the same.
