I'm sure the Blue Ranger being black will be something that will be openly accepted by everybody with no backlash whatsoever. It's a reboot of the original MMPR and it was reported that they movie would have the same names. There's been speculation the classic names were just used for the sides, the same as different characters are used for sides in casting for the television series. If they were 100% commited to the original names, they would have included them in the casting announcements. They have not.

They haven't given any information at all so speculation that they're just for sides isn't news either. They gave a actor name and color distinction. It wouldn't matter to me since there isn't a difference between the character being named Jason or Craig. Red Ranger is still going to be the leader, probably a jock-type and not suddenly going to be the nerd character. Though this is all to capitalize on nostalgia, I don't see the benefit in changing the character.

Considering everything's trilogies now, I'm guessing they'll go for: 1: Original 5 and Rita 2: Green Ranger, works for her, turns good at midpoint but power is drained by the end 3: Lord Zedd, comes in, kicks ass, new Zords including the White ranger rally to defeat him. I like this but I rather have them keep to the original and nor being in zedd/thunder zord/white range. So my third movie would be... 3:Rita summon Lokar for the final battle and the ranger search for Titanus to aid them. I'd prefer Zedd just because summoning an extra powerful monster and adding zords would be more of a retread of the first story, whereas Zedd adds a new dynamic, White Ranger coming back would tie up plot threads from the second and add a bit more complexity to it.

So, cast a bunch of no-names for a theatrical released movie?Ok. The Pink Ranger was in The Martian, which is doing real strong at the Box Office, it being number one two weeks straight, and Blue was in Me, Earl, And The Dying Girl, an indie flick I've heard a lot of good things about. As far as previous experience goes, they've seem to have a good mix with those two having more experience, and Red and Black being more unknowns, experience wise.

Well I must now concede that you were right, they will be playing new versions of the old characters, as Ludi has now confirmed he's playing Zach

Will this be directed by Michael Bay? I sure as hell hope so. So far he's been golden with this sort of film. I honestly can't tell if your Michael Bay fandom is real or if you are being sarcastic about it all the time.

The other thing in favour of Zedd (For me at least), is that he is a wholly MMPR construct. All the other major villain characters in the show (Rita, Goldar, Scorpina, Rito, Master Vile etc) were characters from Zyuranger or Kakuranger. Zedd was a character created exclusively for MMPR (they decided not to use the Gorma generals from Dairanger for season 2). Because this film won't be reliant on pre-existing footage, I feel like this makes more sense.

Callum Oliver – The Red Ranger/Tyrannosaurus Priya Patel – The Pink Ranger/Pterodactyl Brian Olson – The Blue Ranger/Triceratops Oscar Fernandez – The Black Ranger/Mastodon Teyana Jones – The Yellow Ranger/Sabre-tooth Tiger Just going to have to wait and see.

The movie has been retitled Saban's Power Rangers.

The movie has been retitled Saban's Power Rangers. As opposed to those other Power Rangers running around? I mean, seriously, what purpose does this serve? Disney seems pretty well set on going "Yeah...that never happened." when it comes to them owning Power Rangers, so is this distinction really necessary? Does the Saban brand carry that much weight?

I kinda like the Red Rangers Zord. Especially the cockpit.

I like the look of that Command Center except for Zordon and Alpha. Zordon should just be a head, not a whole man trapped in a container. It makes it seem like a coffin. What makes Alpha-5 so beloved is he's kind of lame, always worried. That looks like the Nimrod sentinels from Days of Future Past.

Yeah, that Tyrannosaurus Zord concept looks awesome. I hope this reboot does well.
