what a victory for those englanders, after a slow start to the tournament, so only the defending champions to get through in the semi finals then ..... no pressure

England have to take the game to Japan. Australia tried parking the bus, and the inevitable happened. The Japanese players are small in size, so England will have to be physical with them. Lots of shoulder barges, tossing them over the advertising boards and such...

Hosts Chile reach the semi-finals with a 1-0 win over Uruguay. The second yellow on Cavani was shameful. And Jara just got banned 3 matches for that incident. Honestly seems pretty light for what was essentially sexual assault on the pitch.

Some Saints news:
- Nathaniel Clyne will reportedly complete his £12.5M move to Liverpool as soon as Monday afternoon.
- Morgan Schneiderlin is expected to be announced as Manchester United player on Wednesday. He's reportedly agreed to a four-year deal with the transfer fee at a reported £25M.

He's reportedly agreed to a four-year deal with the transfer fee at a reported £25M. Good players both, and potentially good signings, but considering that all the Saints who left for Anfield and Old Trafford last season had poor-to-average seasons at best, I don't think that many United or Liverpool fans will be quite as optimistic as they were twelve months ago.

Leicester City sack Nigel Pearson.
Not sure I understand that decision after he managed to keep them up last season.

Leicester City sack Nigel Pearson. Not sure I understand that decision after he managed to keep them up last season. Look at the statement from the club, "it has become clear to the club that fundamental differences in perspective exist between us" usually translates to "we want someone who will do what we tell them to do, rather than do the job we hired them to do". Few managers these days have the autonomy to actually be managers, they just end up being avatars for wealthy businessmen who want to play IRL Football Manager. The other side of it could be the board decided that firing him with a couple of months of the season left, when everybody thought he'd be fired, would have certainly condemned them to relegation. There's enough evidence over the years to conclude that changing the manager after January almost never pays off, so better to gamble that he could keep the club up and let him go due to "a breakdown in the working relationship" when relegation survival was achieved. If they'd went down, then there would have been an even more clear-cut reason to fire him.

They did fire him when he did all that weird stuff but the owners son persuaded the owner to rehire him.
