I'm really interested by what Man Utd's midfield will look like this year. Schneirdlin (spelling.. eh) plugs a hole they've have for years and Schweinsteiger (pretty sure I nailed that shit) gives another powerful option. Darmain is a damn fine full back, but they still need a central defender and a forward, especially after letting Van Persie go. As past his best as he is, he's still a damn fine striker, and United are now down to one, unless you count James Wilson. Plus whether Van Gaal rates Chicarito.
As a Watford fan though, I'm more concerned about us. We've bought a whole bunch of foreign players. This can work, but it will take a lot of time for them to gel in a season that has to be about survival. It doesn't help that Flores (our new manager) is playing friendlies in a brand new formation which I don't think anyone is convinced by....

I really like him as a player, but his problem has always been if he's not putting the ball in the net he's not contributing anything to the team. LVG's teams require the forwards to be constantly involved, and that's just not Chicharito's game (and clearly no longer a strength of Falcao's, hence his lack of success). United need two quality forwards if they're going to compete. I've been keeping an eye on Watford, if for no other reason than my best friend's brother-in-law is their third-choice goalkeeper (Gilmartin). I've been pretty impressed with the quality of their signings so far, but it's a lot of players to attempt to bed in at once, and by the time they do it could be too late. I'll be rooting for them, though, as they play incredibly attractive football.

I'll be rooting for them, though, as they play incredibly attractive football. I always liked Chicharito, he's an old school poacher who in the right team would do wonders. But you're right, he doesn't fit into what Van Gaal seems to be trying to be building. The trouble is that this means they need another forward, and if they're going for Cavani I don't think it will work. He's strong and he can run, but I also think he's over-rated as a colourful banana peel holding rotten fruit. He can be fantastic, but he's nowhere near consistent enough in front of goal. Neither has Rooney over the last few years. United need an out and out goal-scorer to lead the line and to make the tap ins and they don't have that. Its the step between an impressive side and a dominating side. We've been making some good signings. But its going to take a while to settle in. Plus our fans aren't the most vocal of bunches and it can be hard to get behind a bunch of mercenaries. And if we're making family ties, my brother is Forestieri's personal estate agent and regularly play fifa at his flat with him .

Cuba had two players defect to America, then lost their first two games 6-0 and 2-0, yet somehow find themselves in the Gold Cup quarter-finals after beating Guatemala 1-0.
Also, apparently one of the defectors has already been picked up by a TV station as a commentator for Cuba matches. Crazy stuff.
... and the final group game is a 4-4 draw between Mexico and Trinidad and Tobago. T&T equalize with the last touch of the game to top the group. And so the quarters are settled:
USA vs Cuba
Jamaica vs Haiti
Trinidad and Tobago vs Panama
Mexico vs Costa Rica

I know it's only preseason, but Morgan Schneiderlin scores under five minutes into his United debut.
Man, I think he's going to be a great signing. I'm excited.

The Fabian Delph saga is the funniest football story of the week.
He turned down Man City and declared his loyalty to Aston Villa.......then changed his mind and signed for City.

On the Delph signing....supposedly once he heard Benteke was on the move he changed his mind, I'm sure there would have been a wage increase as well of course.

The USA are up 4-0 against Cuba, and it's only half-time.
... and it finishes 6-0, with a Clint Dempsey hattrick. Cuba end their tournament with 1 scored and 14 conceded.

Someone put an embargo on Cuban goals apparently. That lob goal was pretty awesome.

Cuba makes friends with America, and America goes and beats them 6-0?
That's not very nice.

USA vs Jamaica and Panama vs Mexico confirmed for the Gold Cup semifinals.
Panama eliminates Trinidad and Tobago in a penalty shootout and Mexico beats Costa Rica in extra time.

Honestly, that would be a nice kit if it wasn't for the huge Aviva patch.

I would be shocked if United doesn't add another striker prior to the deadline. Maybe not before the season starts, but before the end of August. If LVG decides to stand pat, I wouldn't be shocked if Fellaini sees time up front as a bull-in-the-China-shop counter to Rooney.
As it stands, there's an embarrassment of riches in the middle and at the wing, but up front and in the back remain suspect.
My first choice XI right now (4-3-3):
De Gea
Darmian-Smalling-Rojo-Shaw
Schneiderlin-Schweinsteiger-Herrera
Mata-Rooney-Di Maria

i don't see the hype around Schneiderlin at all. very mediacore player in my eyes, maybe that's why i love the fact he's gone to Utd.
Oldham Athletic look set for another year of mid table obscurity and first round cup exits, so i'm excited and ready.

What kind of a player is this Crystal Palace's latest signing Patrick Bamford? Heard he's a good goalscorer, but any closer analysis on him would be appreciated.
