I have Norton Anti Virus but all of a sudden I keep getting annoying ebay ads and various other miscellanous ads popping up on the computer. It's especially maddening when you click on a link but then an ad pops up and you have to keep closing it every time/
What would you recomend to get rid of adware/spyware/malware? I've deleted a load of suspicous programs. Another annoying thing is when I download say CCcleaner from the internet, and the download comes with a load of useless crap I didn't want which clogs up the PC
Any advice?

adwcleaner. It scans your computer for that kind of stuff, tells you if any adware stuff is found, and then tells you to reboot your computer, removing the troublesome files.
On certain websites I used to visit I got random tabs opening to things, and then on other sites I'd get random words turned into eBay links and such and "ads not by this site" stuff. Whenever that kind of thing comes up I've used adwcleaner and it's worked well for me.

get your programs DIRECT from their sites, not from those download ones, 'cos that's where the extra crap comes from

Where are the official sites? I tried to get that adwcleaner for myself, as this is a topic I'm also having trouble with...and ended up with some stupid ass weather report thing that's got all sorts of ads and crap appearing. Could I get some help, please? EDIT: Never mind, I got it taken care of! Thank you all anyway.

I cannot stress this enough.
DO NOT USE NORTON.
Since it's so well known and usually packed in with most new systems...a LOT of IT folks use it as a minimum Benchmark to see what can be detected.
Gonna echo Malwarebytes, as well as LEGIT CCleaner (Though seriously....read the setup stuff to guarantee that's all you're installing) to REMOVE any...odd files and spyware.
Spybot- Search and destroy is good for scanning/removing any NON-Malware/Verified Spyware.

Malwarebytes/Spybot S&D updated and run a full scan at least weekly. Sometimes more if I'm poking around the net a bit more than usual on a specific pc. Also CCleaner...powerful tool but make sure you READ THE SCREEN!!! when you install if you decide to go with it. And f*** Norton with a broomstick handle sideways. Well...that's a bit drastic but seriously, it's bare minimum ,if that, protection. Microsoft's Security Essentials is better and uses a ton less memory.

For over a month I had something blocking my internet connection and had no clue what to do. Even the people on another board could not help me and said it was my NIC. I had tried other programs and nothing worked. I seen what you said and decided to give it a shot. Within five minutes I had my internet on my computer back.

I'd say perform a clean install and reformat. Win 7 and 8 have Microsoft essentials/ windows defender pre installed. No need to be buying any anti virus. Watch where you go too. Sometimes when installing software people forget to unchecked the bloatware that is offered with said program.
