I'm fairly certain Mick Foley was called "Mick" a few times when he was still only doing Mankind. Once Dude Love and Cactus Jack were in the mix, his real name was part of his gimmick, so it doesn't count.

X-Pac was called Sean by Kane in a promo in 99 after they had been attacked by The Undertaker, "You hurt me, you hurt Sean", of course using the voice box thing at the time. I mentioned this in the other threads about real names so may as well keep it going!

Kip and B.G. James called out Paul Levesque and Michael Hickenbottom in the Russo era of TNA.

The Rock's elderly high school teacher lady's intro does it. "Dwayne, do you know the answer to that important question?"

Oh and I don't think there's been a definitive answer but when Taker returns from being set on fire by Kane and he's lying down on the stage, it sounds like King goes "SIT UP MARK" just before the lightning strikes.

I could have sworn that last year when Dusty Rhodes was feuding with the Authority, Stephanie called him Virgil Runnels.

WCW was notorious for this. When Razor and Diesel debuted they called them by their real names (Scott Hall and Kevin Nash). In fact I can't think of a single time they called them Razor or Diesel. That's WCW for you.

That's WCW for you. They legally couldn't call them Razor or Diesel. Hell, Hall had to stop using a lot of the Razor mannerisms because the WWF sued WCW for copyright infringement.

I have a vague memory of when Big Show first showed up in 99 that his real name was used.

That had to have been a joke.

I (and probably roughly 95% of the viewing audience) roll my eyes any time they use real names on the microphone as a way to "make it seem more real," when all it does in actuality is make it seem "more lame." Like they're trying too hard.

I remember when Rock slipped up and called Mankind Mick at one point during their dissention angle, Mankind got really mad and called him Dwayne in retaliation. This was years before he went to Hollywood too, so it must have been the first time we learned The Rock's real given name.

Like they're trying too hard. Yes, it's like ... "Let's break character for a moment and ignore the script"... firstly, calling attention to the script, then looking even more lame because we know that their "shoot" is just as scripted as the script. Pro wrestling has the most lame writing of anything on television. Not even soap operas are as lame, because no one stops and calls the other actors by their actor name to underscore how serious their storyline is.

At Summerslam 1993 they interviewed The Steiner Bros mom and sister. The sister calls Rick by his real name Rob.

That's WCW for you. Joking aside, WCW didn't even call them by their real names for a good while. Up through Hogan's turn, at least, WCW did what they could to just refer to them as "these guys," or just the Outsiders and differentiated Nash as "the big one." They weren't sure yet *what* they could call them.

They weren't sure yet *what* they could call them. Yes, it was a nice touch to build suspense as well as the illusion that these guys were actually still working for WWE. They could have just been like, "Look! It's the Diamond Studd and Vinny Vegas! I can't believe they're back!" Instead they didn't say their names because they knew they didn't have to... and they knew that everyone watching at home or telling their school mates would be saying that Razor Ramon and Diesel are in WCW. Very smart.

Like they're trying too hard. With guys like CM Punk and Big Show its ok. As these are obviously stage names and not real names. But when you start calling guys like Dolph Ziggler and Bray Wyatt by their real names then it just gets stupid.

On Rock's debut at Survivor Series 1996, they mention that his name is Dwayne Johnson.
