I became a wrestling fan in 91 when I was 7. I loved the Rockers and hated Shawn for the barbershop incident. As a child, I didn't realize Marty had dove through the window like a coward. I was convinced that Marty would become the bigger star. For years I said Marty was my favorite wrestler even though he really wasn't anymore, just out of loyalty. Every time he would return I thought it was finally his time only to be let down time and time again. It was an even bigger let down to find out what kind of person Marty seems to be in real life.

As a kid, I saw them as equals during their Rockers days. As an adult, when I watch footage from the 1980s and early 1990s, I can pick up on the 'little things' and I can see how Shawn was better and showed more personality. Shawn showed more confidence and command during the non-wrestling moments like entrances, backstage interviews, reacting after matches or scuffles. Marty was best in the ring and I think just had a weaker personality outside of it. Do you think some of that might have had to do with them trying to fit into the WWE mold of the day? They both seemed to have a lot more personality pre-WWE. When they dropped the "Midnight" from their name, any individuality they might have had before was lost for a very generic babyface gimmick. I never saw the Midnight Rockers until I got older, but to me Marty seemed to have more of a presence pre-WWE. I don't know. Looking back on them now, Shawn just seems like a 'Type A' and Marty just doesn't seem to have it like Shawn does, though it's hard to really describe how I mean.

Marty has said in past interviews that key people in the company told him that they see more in Shawn than in him and that they were gonna run with Shawn. So no matter how good Party Marty was, he wasn't going to ascend in the WWF like Shawn was.

Samu of the Headshrinkers somehow is so forgettable that nobody bothers to think of him in this way. Rikishi won the IC title and went on to become massively over and feuded with Austin. While his former partner vanished into thin air. I'm sure there are more real "Jannettys" who have had a more substandard run than Marty. Tito Santana's career went down rapidly after Strike Force, so probably calling someone the Tito Santana of the team should have more of a burn. But only one member of Strike Force is a former IC champ and is in the Hall Of Fame, and it (surprisingly, really) isn't Rick Martel. But yeah, Shawn always just showed much better personality and, even though it took a while for his mic skills to develop, his voice kinda helped him out. Marty always had his monotone drawl that needed more work to develop.

Bit harsh on Tito
After Strike Force he was still a reliable hand, who could pop a crowd and made guys look good when he wrestled them in an enhancement role.
