Courtesy of: NY Daily NewsWhen the Mystery Inc. gang is confronted by their worst nightmares in the new direct to video film Scooby Doo! Frankencreepy, Daphne is transformed from a size 2 to a size 8. For reasons including the movie's portrayal of a size 8, jimmies have been rustled, needless to say.

Why not make her into a wolf girl? Because then, really hairy people would throw a fit.

You know, quadrupling in size no matter what body type you are is a shock no matter what.

I'm not totally up to par on my Scooby-Doo history, but hasn't Daphne always been portrayed as a somewhat vain character? So in theory wouldn't it make sense for the "nightmare" of someone that body conscious to be overweight?

For me, it's not that she's afraid of getting fat and being portrayed as such, is that the size which they said was "fat" f***ing ISN'T. I remember an episode of the Outer Limits where a robot girl bragged about being a perfect size 6, and she was skinny as hell. I can't imagine a size 8 being super bigger than that, but the cartoon portrays her like she's Jabba the Hutt or something (size 628). I guess what I'm trying to say is that I would be annoyed if someone with "perfect size 6 feet" went ballistic when they were changed into having "Size 8 feet." There's not a lot of difference there.

Women's sizes make zero sense to me, but it is pretty clear that is nowhere in the neighborhood of a size 8. According to Ask.com, Beyoncé and Jennifer Lopez wear size 6 and Christina Hendricks wears somewhere between 10-14. I don't know if that is accurate or not but if they are then I imagine most women should be comfortable being size 8's.

I remember an episode of the Outer Limits where a robot girl bragged about being a perfect size 6, and she was skinny as hell. Not that this AT ALL supports the bullshit presented in this cartoon, but it is true that there has been size inflation over time, when it comes to women's clothing, such that today's size 8 is larger than the size 8 of years ago. This page I think has the best explanation of the situation that I have read. www.vanitysizing.com/archive/interview-why-have-retailers-changed-clothing-sizes/#more-37"Now, switching gears back to fiddling with sizes on the part of manufacturers, let’s talk about the size medium or size 10. The function of the size 10/M is really arcane, its value is not obvious to consumers because 10/M is a standard yardstick that manufacturers use to calculate costing and allocation (amount of fabric needed) for all the other sizes. Necessarily, the medium is the midpoint of the size range. So if you sell five sizes, the middle size is a M (or 10, same thing). You have two smaller sizes and two larger ones off to either side of it. When we lay out our fabric to cut it, the smaller sizes are paired with larger sizes so you don’t waste so much fabric. This means that for every large, you need a small to prevent waste. For every XS, you need an XL, mediums cancel each other out. This means that for costing purposes, the sale of mediums tells you how much fabric you need to buy and what it will cost. Now, suppose one day you discover that you’re not selling as many mediums anymore, you have more demand for larger sizes… your yardstick is out of whack now and you have a lot more waste because you have less demand for the smalls that take up space the larges leave behind in the fabric spread. With all these larges and not enough smalls selling, You don’t know how much fabric you need, not as readily as you once did. So what manufacturers do is grow that medium to be a little larger than it was. When you do this, that increase in larges falls back again so they will be evenly balanced by the smalls (and you’re selling more mediums). I described all of this in two entries called Analyzing sales by size and Analyzing sales by size pt.2" "Point is, if one company’s size 10 remains static and in effect is two sizes smaller than competing lines, a retailer can’t hang those together. It creates a merchandising problem. Sales people will not tell customers “X” line runs small or very small in comparison to other lines unless it’s a boutique. Buyers send feedback to manufacturers on their sizing as it compares to what is being produced by competing lines and between them all, which sizes and their respective dimensions, sell the best."

She's been chased by countless psychopaths dressed up as horrifying ghosts and ungodly monsters and that is her worst nightmare?
Her worst nightmare should be turning 40 and still hanging out in a van with a bunch of hippies and their talking dog.

I hope Shaggy's is sorta like that one Burgess Meredith 'Time Enough' Twilight Zone; where Shaggy now has thousands of packages of Scooby Snacks, but no way to get inside.

Consider my ass schooled. I never considered things like clothing sizes "inflating" sort of like money and stuff. Thanks for the lesson.

Mystery Incorporated tricked me into thinking I cared all that much about Scooby Doo, but nope, mostly just cared about that show.
