Ric Flair's retirement run, ending at Wrestlemania. That was a perfect fairytale story ending.

Bobby Heenan pulling out the WCW title belt and uttering the words "Ric Flair" on WWF TV I was speechless. They couldn't have done it better using vignettes to introduce Flair. Using the belt despite the legal risks was genius. It wasn't just Flair, it was the OTHER world champion. Truly one of these "That moment time stopped." deals. ---- The introduction of the Radicalz. They had been on WCW programming the previous night, and they just organically showed up to sit in the front row. WWE Monday Night War veteran Road Dogg sees these guys that tried to put him out of a job, takes a swing at.... Benoit wasn't it? And the Radicalz go nuts hitting trademark holds and getting a pop in the process because WWE fans figure out they get a whole bunch of new guys to watch and the crowd there know they saw something special. The sad thing is, I don't think we'll ever ever get a surprise like that again. If Bobby Roode, James Storm, Samoa Joe & Abyss do the exact same deal, do they get that pop? I don't think so.

The Rock becoming the Corporate Champion.
It made a mockery of Montreal, it had logic behind it (it's understandable that Vince would prefer the blue chip Rock as his champion than the unkempt weirdo freak Mankind), and built upon backstory (the Rock never forgot being booed by the fans and took the chance to stick it to them), and perfectly positioned the Rock as a contrast to Stone Cold (Stone Cold refused to be a corporate champion, while Rock embraced it enthusiastically).
The next night on RAW, the fans were so incensed, they sounded as if they wanted to lynch the entire Corporation.
It was sublime.

The next night on RAW, the fans were so incensed, they sounded as if they wanted to lynch the entire Corporation. It was sublime. When I was eight, I was heartbroken by The Rock turning. I had been loyal to him through thick and thin all year. I cheered for him in the Nation over DX (though Owen joining the Nation was a big part of that too) and seeing him finally embrace The People filled me with joy. When he sold out to Vince, I was heartbroken. Probably the best angle Vince Russo ever booked. While Survivor Series 98 certainly won't provide much material for any best matches list, it's always been one of my all-time favourite PPVs for having a story within itself and the amazing turn at the end. "SCREWED AT THE SURVIVOR SERIES! WHERE HAVE WE HEARD THAT ONE BEFORE?!"

The Shield's entire run was handled pretty much perfectly as far as I can recall. I think they were good early on and then they used them as The Authority's lapdogs and they lost what was interesting about them. Also when they came in, they were pretty interesting, there was an air of mystery about them. That Ambrose interview was awesome. But in the end they didn't have any plans, they attacked people for no reasons.

The whole Bret Hart saga with him turning heel, especially when everything lead to both he and Austin doing the double turn at Mania. f***ing flawless storytelling.

WrestleMania 30. The entire show. My favorite wrestling show of all time.
Starting out with Hulk/SCSA/Rock, ending with Daniel Bryan with a completely unexpected win from my POV, it felt so right.

They were mercenaries, so their joining The Authority made sense in that HHH probably offered them a shit-ton of money to do his bidding. Anyway, D-Bry's wins at Wrestlemania 30.

Team Hell No was perfection. It was the most useful Kane had been in years.
Turing that into a weak link storyline? Even better.

The Shield's breakup morphing into The Shield's face turn earlier this year was brilliantly done.
And to backtrack a couple months earlier, The Shield vs. The Wyatt Family was stable warfare at its absolute best (with two heel teams no less). Easily the best built match in the last couple years.

But in the end they didn't have any plans, they attacked people for no reasons. As much as I loved Shield, I have to agree. They started off with the "justice" type thing which was cool but ultimately, once it was revealed that was just a front for doing Heyman's dirty work they kinda lost direction. Still loved them though. They were awesome. But if they had more of a plan or purpose post-Heyman, they could have been even better.

The entire Batista/Triple H buildup. I was just coming to post this one. This was the first thing I thought of. I didn't like either guy but damn, WWE built it up perfectly. Hogan/Warrior has to be one, too
