Didn't know Belichick started his career with the Colts.

Great episode (obviously I'm a little biased)
Sadly I feel, because of the way he left, Bill Parcells' contribution to the Patriots has been overlooked. It was truly one of those moments that transforms a franchise. The Patriots were rarely good throughout their entire history and early 90's they hit rock bottom earning only 1 and 2 wins in two of their last three seasons. They were also plagued by unstable ownership and looked to be on their way to St. Louis.
When Parcells arrived it sent a jolt of excitement through the region. Throughout their history the Patriots were often a clear number 4 when it came to fan interest among the Boston sports teams but suddenly they were the talk of the town. Here was this proven winner coming to turn this sad sack franchise around. It would be like Bill Belichick today agreeing to coach the Cleveland Browns.
And four years later they were in the Super Bowl. They have gone from the bottom of the barrel to the top of the league. Unfortunately things fell apart after that and there would be a couple of more lean yeàrs but the success the Patriots enjoy today was set on the foundation that Parcells helped build.

The next 30 for 30 is The Last Days of Knight:

Two Bills was boring as hell. These two great coaches have different personalities while working together. They had a rift after they didn't have to work together anymore and now they're cool again. The end.
Looking forward to the one on Knight. He's such a deep well of a subject and he's a guy who hasn't been talked about a lot lately. That was a huge deal at a different time (though with Paterno, you had a lot of the same reactions.)

I liked the Two Bills 30 for 30, but then I'm biased because I'm a Giants fan and it was neat seeing the two reminisce about their time together as the NYG head coach and defensive coordinator as well as hearing former Giants players give their takes on Belichick as DC. Also the complete disrespect shown by both Bills towards the Jets locker room at the end was pretty funny.

The Knight one should be must see stuff. He was always a polarizing force in college basketball. I remember my grandpa (my mom's dad) saying in the 80s if he had a son he wouldn't let him play for Bobby Knight. It's so bizarre that a guy that basically WAS IU basketball for 3 decades just became persona non grata and it's been this weird Cold War ever since.
I don't even know what exactly caused IU's slow decline in the 1990s. It wasn't a situation like with Louisville or Georgetown where neither program adjusted to the 3 point line all that well (neither Denny Crum or John Thompson made a FF post 1986, albeit for different reasons). IU won the title in 1987, first year of the 3 point line. They remained a really good team until about 1994, but it seemed like once that whole Calbert Cheaney/Damon Bailey crew left Knight just didn't get the recruits he used to. A new generation of players shockingly didn't want to play for a man that was a constantly bullying dick.

Was that team new recruits from the succeeding coach or residual Knight players?

Mike Davis took over the team for the 2001-02 season, and took them to the championship game, where they lost to Maryland. If my memory serves well, most of the players stayed. It wasn't until Kelvin Sampson where people decided to bail on the program after he was terminated.

That was actually Davis's 2nd year. What's odd is that they were basically the same sort of marginal IU team during the regular season, maybe lucky to even get to the Sweet 16. But it just so happened that they got to play Duke and Rupp Arena and let's just say that I don't think Coach K and the Dukies were making it out alive if they won that one, haha. So IU had a fluky bracket that year, then Oklahoma just had a meltdown in the FF (I thought OU was the best team that year...I think they stomped Maryland in the regular season). Most of the guys like Coverdale, Fife, and Odle were Knight recruits. I'm not sure about Jared Jeffries since he only played for Davis but was likely recruited by Knight.
One does wonder if Knight could have done the same with that team.
As a U of L fan (yeah, I know) I wish they would do a 30 for 30 on the Crum era, since they've done all sorts of these things on the other teams of that era (the Phi Slamma Jamma one, the NC State one, etc.). There's so much material too: Crum calling out UK when the two teams didn't play (and of course the 1983 Dream Game...they can just milk that tourney), not hesitating to have an all black starting lineup, the Doctors of Dunk, the entire insane Memphis St. rivalry of the 70s and 80s, and of course the titles and FFs. Of course with all the current fiascoes with the NCAA there's no way they would do a positive piece on U of L, but I'd watch it.

As much as I love Indiana, I look at Bob Knight as a bitter old man resentful that someone finally had the sack to can his sorry ass.
People argue he got canned because he started losing, but there was more to it than that.

I recall something my grandpa (mom's side) said about Knight: "If I had a son I wouldn't let him play for Bobby Knight." And this was well before any of the events in this documentary. This was just when he was a mean spirited, yell at players constantly, sort of bully.

Wasn't the student who Knight confronted which led to his firing the nephew of a IU professor who had been calling for Knight to be fired? I am not excusing what Knight did but the whole confrontation just screams setup.
