Doesn't he not even want to be? I swear I've heard multiple interviews where he just wants to wrestle and sustain some kind of beet farm with Brie or some shit.
We care far more about him than even he does.

I mean he is.. The fact they stripped his title away from him instead of just squashing him screams they have plans for his return..

Bryan already was "the guy". He beat HHH and later wrestled again the same night and won the WWE Title in the main event at Wrestlemania 30. Seriously, if that isn't "The Guy" than what in the blue hell does Bryan have to do? He's just hurt, that's all. Exactly this! Bryan's the top guy, without a doubt. He's just not around to show it.

We care far more about him than even he does. I have heard him say that he wants to be not just a star but THE star, like Rock or Austin. That was a couple of years ago though. Maybe his perspective as changed a little bit. You may be onto something in saying we want it more than he does, we forget this is a job for him at the end of the day. But, bigger push = more solar panels and beets. Either way, when he comes back he's going to be insanely over, so he's going to be that guy unless WWE actively keeps it from happening.

There'a also just Bryan not being much less worn down, physically, than Cena - in fact, he might be more worn down. The one thing I understand about giving Roman Reigns the big push? He's fresh, he's fit, he's young. He's not been beaten up by a decade plus on the indies. This seems to be something that everyone is overlooking. Bryan's been wrestling for 15 years. Cena started wrestling a whole one month before Bryan. And, while Cena's had the hectic WWE schedule for close to a decade more, it's not like Bryan was taking off very many nights, either. Roman Reigns, on the other hand? He started wrestling in 2010, and that was in developmental (I don't know their schedule relative to the main roster's, but I'm guessing it's not nearly as ridiculous). There isn't much reason to think Bryan can go much longer than Cena, but Roman Reigns still has a good decade-plus in his body to wrestle.

He's too short and he can't work, brother.
He doesn't even own a TV.
He's a midget, or likes vanilla ice cream, or something.
He wrote a letter to Christian's Malaysian Death Row Pen Pal, Adam Rose.
He didn't punch the Gooker in the face for sleeping with Melina Bella.
He's too Asian.

He's hurt. But it's on WWE for not capitalizing on him sooner. Oh, I agree. They dicked around too long with Bryan. But, to be completely fair to them, they were honestly trying to portray him as "THE GUY" after he won the title at Mania. I don't think they were trying to sabotage him with that Kane feud, they really are just that dumb and thought it was a perfectly acceptable feud for the hottest face in your company. It was incompetence, not lack of effort. In fact, Kane's still out there, whether he's wrestling in a mask or looking like a Right To Censor reject, facing Reigns, the dude who JBL, Cole, and Lawler give terrible overbearing verbal blowjobs to on commentary every Monday. "Kane fued" isn't a depush, it's just shows how shitty their heel and face main event situation is.

He doesn't have the look Yeah maybe Reigns isn't all that good of a wrestler but he had the look forsure But Bryan DOES have the look. He isn't THAT small. He's roughly the same size as half the roster. And he's good looking enough to appeal to da ladies/The GAY COMMUNITY?!?! He cleans up well and looks like a guy I can see putting on a suit and going on the late night talk shows.

It's notable that at the start of NXT they go through a brief snapshot of their biggest stars and it ends with Bryan, it suggests he was meant to be "the guy".
Plus I think he was meant to be feuding with Lesnar, although that may not have worked out too well if he was squashed like Cena was.

If you have the entire Superdome shouting your chant in unison after you've defeated the most protected man in the company, the world champion and a wrestlemania main eventer in the same night, you're the guy. He is hurt. When he comes back, he will surely get back up there. The WWE know how over he is. They haven't missed the boat the way people think. Certain things were designed to make it look like they were burying him.
Seriously, just not putting him in the Rumble at all? That was a premeditated and conscious thing.

If that's the case, it was short sighted and totally unnecessary. Bryan is already more over than everyone else. There was no need to try to make him more sympathetic with a fake burial. All that did was take away time that he could've already be on top proper.

I think him not being in the Rumble was that they thought that so long as he wasn't in the match, no one would get that upset about him not winning. And there is absolutely no way that they planned it all in advance. Zero. Among other things, it'd have to have required them to know that the crowd would permanently turn on Batista after popping for him his first night back, and they'd had have to have known Punk was going to walk out.

Seriously, if that isn't "The Guy" than what in the blue hell does Bryan have to do? He's just hurt, that's all. Yeah, the guy needed surgery right after he became "the guy" and you know damn well the crowd will make him "the guy" again as soon as he's back. I could see Bryan and Reigns in a Punk/Cena situation though, where they are the two top stars but Reigns is "WWE's guy" and Bryan is "Our guy".

With Triple H signing mostly "small" guys (in WWE terms at least), I'm expecting quite a big shift in focus in next few years and to be honest I see Bryan being the guy very soon.
