Just finished catching up on this season. I swear, if Cameron Monaghan doesn't get some kind of award for his portrayal of Jerome, it would be a travesty. He is just killing it in this role. He is really creepy. It's great!

Just caught the first two episodes. While I'm glad Fish and Montoya are nowhere in sight, I am just finding myself really annoyed by the villains this season. Barbara is just the worst, even when evil, and Joker is way too powerful way too soon. Who destroys a police station in episode two? That's a mid season cliffhanger at the lightest. Plus, none of these characters are going to get any decent comuppance until whenever Batman goes through puberty, so... meh?
At least they seem to have toned down the use of Penguin. Which helps a bit.

Which helps a bit. I have this feeling that they're building to an eventual showdown with Penguin though. All it takes is the "Maniax" destroying a couple of his businesses. Next thing you know, Jerome & Crew are going to have to deal with Zsasz and His Merry Leathered Band featuring Butch on Guitar. And eventually Riddler is going to get past his inevitable courting and killing of Ms. Kringle, (Complete with "How could you do this?" "Don't you mean how could I[/b] do this?!") and start doing little crimes to ramp himself up. (I keep hoping they'll do a thing where he panics and tries to cover up a crime where he left too obvious a clue, Gordon catches him, and suspends him because he thinks Nygma has taken cash from Penguin to cover things up. "Everyone has problems. Everyone makes mistakes, Ed. Go home for a week and come back ready to do good.") So, I could see Nygma using Maniax nonsense to cover up his deeds because they'll eventually want a scene where Crazy Ed and Jerome interact because that's a commercial hype waiting to happen. Plus, daggone it, the BALLOONMAN has to be somewhere, right?! RIGHT?! Edit: And I agree about the police station. They're starting very fast and I'm not sure how they maintain momentum from it.

It'd be nice if that Dollmaker guy got caught eventually. He's probably off somewhere pitching an Island of Dr. Moreau style spin-off.

I definitely think a Theo Galavan/Penguin showdown is in the works and I very much look forward to it. Probably at the midseason finale before the winter break they'll set it up a violent confrontation. Much better than the convoluted mob war last season. Also helps that James Frain is the heavy this year too.

Guys, I think Jerome might be the inspiration for the future actual Joker.

See you wanted them not to be obvious so they killed one of the few interesting things about the show and kept around barbra bigshow
