Just caught up with the last three episodes. As ever with this show, lots of ups and downs.
I like the stuff with Penguin going crazy, Selina, Barnes, and Gordon's Strike team. The Galavan side of the main plot isn't doing anything for me, and Bruce just bores me.
And can we please do more with Bullock? They've got a great actor playing an excellent character, and he's getting nothing to do except tag along at Gordon's heels. What a waste. The "I hate that it always smells like good barbecue" line slayed me though.
And poor Butch. He's easily one of the most likeable characters on the show.

I kind of have a thing for Tabitha, granted she'd probably decapitate me, but still.

They've signed BD Wong (LAW & ORDER: SVU, JURASSIC PARK/WORLD) to play Hugo Strange.
Considering his character on SVU for years was a shrink, and that he's a good actor, this is a real good casting.

I agree with everything in this post, Bullock is the most interesting character on the show to me. Donal Logue is one of my favorite character actors and I think they should do more with him.

I didn't stop watching, but I didn't find the thread last week. Apparently it died a little. But I've still liked the last 2 weeks. It's just really interesting TV. It's almost never GOOD TV, the quality is very questionable. But I just can't peel away when it's on except for the Bruce/Galavan girl garbage and Nygma talking to himself parts. And man, their 4 new recruits sure are dropping like flies. Seems like lazy writing. Like, their deaths are supposed to mean something, because they were built up for a combined 5 minutes as all having a whole one skill. And they've gone down with little fight. Tabitha just literally stepped on Martinez, and he's dead 30 seconds into a confrontation. 0 stars.
The Penguin needs to go on a tear now. He has always been a good character on the show, and he has sympathy for losing his mother, and finding his balls against Theo, who is mind-numbingly boring and awful.
Not to knock the discussion off the course, but I've been fully invested in this season and the people I talk to seem very ho-hum on it. But then they're crazy about TWD this season, and I'm bored to tears with it. Is this accurate? Am I crazy?

I kind of want Talia to show up this season, and have a scene with Silver, just to see Talia no sell the threat and laugh in Silver's face.
Glad to see Gordon got smart, less glad to see that he turns that right around by letting it slip to Galavan that he's onto him, and telling Galavan he's going to bring him down.
I'm wondering if Gordon will have to bring back Falcone this season. Falcone was concerned last season about Gotham falling off the edge, and would be interested in what's going down. He was also presented as something of a necessary evil that wanted to maintain balance in Gotham.
The Penguins assault was fantastic. Top notch stuff guys.

Theo Galavan is basically the Gotham city version of Senator/Chancellor/Emperor Palpatien from the prequels, so I am glad that Gordon finally connected the dots and stopped taking his BS.

I can't wait until they kill off Galavan and his sister. They aren't villains you love to hate like Fish and Penguin. I just f***ing hate them being on my TV.

With Gotham they're after taking the potential the first season had, ironed out some kinks and, while it's by no means perfect, so far I've really enjoyed each episode that's aired in S2. With TWD, they're only 4 episodes in but again, so far, all S6 has hit some sort of mark. You're not crazy. Different people like different things.

I like TWD, but every season since the farm has seemed slow, drawn-out, and predictable. Like the Morgan backstory the other night. That's what everyone knew was coming, and writing-wise it was solid. But it gives you so little over 90 minutes. Or the season-ending showdown with the Governor at the prison followed up by the mid-season ending showdown with the Governor at the prison? TWD is like Chinese food. I only get the mirage of being full at the end of the episode, and there's 0 reason for me to re-watch. Where as Gotham, for all it's obvious faults, it actually has meat to it. 4 episodes in, and the biggest thing they've given us is probably a misdirect.

The Penguins assault was fantastic. Top notch stuff guys. Falcone's retirement never made sense to me. I have this theory that he saw all this coming (which he pretty much states in the season one finale), so he decided to step out of the spotlight while the crazies thin each other out. Once the insanity is done and everything is in ruins, Falcone resurfaces to clean up what's left and rules over a new Gotham criminal empire with no competition or wild cards. He'd probably even have enough dirt to keep Gordon in line, and would almost be seen as a hero in the process.

If they manage to avoid cancellation and squeeze a full run out of the show, I could imagine the very final scene being Falcone celebrating having finally restored his empire, only for his enforcers to suddenly drop. He turns to run, only to stop dead in his tracks, start backing off and asking an unseen figure "Who the hell are you?" Cut to the figure stepping out of the shadows: "I'm Batman." Roll credits.

After thinking about it, I don't really like how much they've rushed things with Enygma and Penguin's mother. Personally, I was interested in the rumors of Penguin's father appearing and wanted to see an interaction with the mother. Enygma's stuff is a bummer because I feel they missed the opportunities for more comedic character building into the dark descent. I mean...I just wanted one forced double date to the movies where Ed keeps pointing out how the twists are "too obvious" and being 'that' annoying theater goer. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}But, yeah, Penguin's mother was a good character that needed more to do and her death should have been a super berserk button on Penguin beyond just wanting to kill the 'new' Mayor...but man, The March of the Penguins was beyond amazing. Editing: Okay. Another thing. Galavant is a daggone Del Rio of a freaking villain. He's supposed to be a big deal, fairly quick, and it's bumming me out at the very interesting storylines getting dropped simply to shove him in the forefront as the 'super' bad guy.

On a re-watch, two things stand out. This exchange between Harvey and Gordon.
Gordon: "Do you believe Galavan?" Harvey: "Questions like that are above my pay grade and below my sense of wonder."
Logue is the best actor they have. That is a great line, and he nails it. The other thing is Penguin falling apart when saying "He killed my mother, Jim." Ugh, right in the feels for the bad guy.
