^^^True.
I was talking to of my friends and they see it the same way. I also thought that the result of how Gordon put him out of Gotham would have messed his eye up from the blast sort of like a way to introduce the Arhkam Penguin instead of the bottle in the eye version but with a disfiguring that would require the monocle. But's his transformation into is what fun to see. He'll wait until he gets an umbrella with a blade in it.
I know that Gordon becomes a cop because that's what he is. The level of corruption in the force this early into his career is a little of an overload to me imo.

I loved the scene of Bruce drawing really macabre images in his notebook while listening to metal. We always see Bruce when his parents get killed and then we don't see him again until either he goes off for his training/is in training/has completed his training and is ready to start fighting crime as Batman. So it's interesting to see how they portray the rest of Bruce's adolescense. It makes sense that he would end up being a kid obsessed with morbid images when you consider he saw his parents gunned down and then grows up to hunt criminals in the shadows of Gotham dressed as a bat.

I agree with the villains being to spot on, It's just in your face about it.
Posion Ivy's name is now Ivy? K
Selena is a master prowler thief at what? 11?
I've heard roughly every other episode there will buy a guy who could be the Joker but only one will actually end up being him, all unknown actors, nice touch.
I suggest visiting the Gotham Chronicle is has nice little hints about future things such as new skylights being installed on top of GCPD.

LOVE LOVE that one of the articles is entitled Killer Jokes, plus they are going to have one of the most obscure Batman villains on Monday's episode

it's no wonder Batman never had any problems with all these villains, apparently they were all pushing 50 by the time he became Batman

I went into it watching no previews or anything. I was really hoping for a less "in your face, here, eat this, you marks" type of show. So much pandering. I thought we were going to get a pre-Gotham Gotham with fresh characters and stuff. The first scene was Bruce Wayne and I was in "Huh?" mode.
There are positives: I do like Penguin's portrayal and the idea behind his origin. I just didnt expect such a "play it safe" type of series where they throw as many references at you as possible and every viewer is already "inside" everything. I was interested in a pre-Bruce concept.

It's not bad so far, they need to find a balance in tone. You watch for example the 80s Flash TV show and even though there were gritty elements, it was so operatic that the super-hero stuff, the crime stuff, the human stuff all meshed into one pretty well. I think their motto was "it's adventure". But anyway they could cut on the goofy stuff.
Now as far the rest, I sort of wished they would have made Gotham a thing into itself with young Gordon before using the known villains. I know this was a problem with AOS that there wasn't Marvel stuff but to me you've got to know if this whole thing can be good by itself without any of the comic-book elements. Is it a strong enough "Cop/Crime" show without those things for example? If you've proven this, then you can start adding some of the Batman mythos. Having a kid Wayne in the stories for instance is a misfire to me. It just feel fake or hocky. I wonder if this would be good without them.
(I had a similar problem with Nolan's movies too wheras I wish Nolan would have introduced us to the world of Gotham and the crime element esp. before bringing about the goofy guys. Falcone for example could have been the only villain in Batman Begins. It's Nolan so those were great films but I thought it was a missed opportunity. You could even have had Harvey Dent in a few flicks as just an attorney. So you have a progression)
I like Ben MaKenzie as Gordon.

The only thing 'wrong' with this show is their version of Alfred. Alfred is not Michael Caine. So having Pertwee play Michael Caine playing Alfred is a mistake. The idea that Alfred would talk with a cockney accent, swear and even say 'innit' really broke the scenes he was in for me and took me out of the show Oh man that's what he was doing wasn't he. I kept wondering why I didn't hear his english accent. I kept raising the volume on and on. Not sure Pertwee is right for this, he is giving out a weird a vibe so far.

Anyone else annoyed that Jim doesn't have glasses or his mustache? It seems they just don't want anyone who looks at all different as a protagonist, so much genericness out there. Him not having glasses especially bugs me, and really I can't think of many TV shows starring someone with glasses. When apparently 61% of the population wears glasses.
I also agree focusing on young Bruce during this annoys me, as does stuff like a kid Catwoman. A unique crime serial starring the actual Jim Gordon character would've been something special.

Neil Hamilton didn't have the moustache/glasses But Gordon should have the moustache at least when he's young.

I only saw the first episode, but the way they shoehorned damn near every future villain in there was very off-putting.
"You need help, Nygma...get it, Nygma? Eh? Eh?"

I had to turn it off the other night. Jada Smith is just too horrible.
If they had a show called "Cobblepot" and followed his character, I'd probably watch. Everything else is missing the mark for me.

I don't mind the Nygma bit as it's his name but they really f***ing pushed that the he's the riddler get it! in his minute seen... I haven't watched the second episode yet... but if the series is as subtle as the first episode I expect things like Bullock calling Harvey Dent a two faced son of a bitch every time he's mentioned and Kirk Langstrom will be Bruce's schoolmate who also likes bats and has been renamed Wayne Bruce...

Y'know, if they're not gonna be subtle about the future villains and such, might as well have characters turn to the camera and wink at the viewer every time they foreshadow something.

It's weird I liked Ben MacK from that other cop show "Southland", and he seems to be playing the exact same character here right down to his over-inflated morality about what it means to be a 'cop', and the fact that his family connections gives him more leeway to circumnavigate the corruption that every other police in Gotham seems to be neck deep into.
I'm a comics mark so I hope we'll get to see Ra's Al Ghul come try and adopt the Young Detective soon.

I'm really hoping for somebody to introduce himself as "Mr. Oaker, but you can call me Joe." Wouldn't it be easier to just be Mr. Ker... actually I think The Animated Show had Joker using that as an alias at one point
