I mean, think about it. You close your eyes, and a few minutes later... or maybe an hour or two for unfortunate insomniacs like me, you pretty much black out. Hours pass, and when you wake up it's doesn't feel that long even though at least 4 hours pass. And when you're dreaming those dreams completely screw with how one views time. I remember dreams were so much went on, and when I wake up I get that feeling that the hours I spent sleeping shouldn't have that much room for so much dreams. But seriously, closing your eyes and shutting down really feels kinda freaky.

I just like the fact there's an item in your house that is specifically designed to lay upon and go unconscious.

Not sleeping is even freakier, I once stayed up for like 5 days straight and it's truly bizarre when the waking and dreaming worlds merge.

Sleep in Greek Mythology was a sibling of death so there is that to consider

Not sleeping is even freakier, I once stayed up for like 5 days straight and it's truly bizarre when the waking and dreaming worlds merge. That's the worst and best part of insomnia. I once was awake for six days straight and had a full on dream with my eyes open. It was such an absurd feeling.

As a comedian who doesn't get high, my constant insomnia makes for some good material.
That said I think I have trouble sleeping because it does freak me out. Just laying there helpless. Hate it.

I got home from work, went to bed, and dreamt that I was still at work and keeping up with a hectic pace, and woke up feeling like I'd done another shift. The brain is a weird thing.

I just find it strange/interesting how the human body must shut down.

It's even freakier when you start hallucinating before you even fall asleep. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypnagogia#Definitions_and_synonymsHowever I'd rather have that than sleep paralysis. Oh and then there's hypnic jerks, you think you're finally getting to sleep and bam! Your body has other ideas. That's all before we even get to sleep.

1) I read something once (an issue of THE DREAMING by the guy who went on to create/write FABLES) where the characters made a comment that "Oh, that guy didn't have any dreams? Eh, we'll just flood a bunch of images into his head at the last minute and he'll think he was dreaming" -- and that's all I can think about now regarding my dreams, especially since I'm one who tends to forget the "plot" of my dreams once he wakes up. 2) What's freakier to me are people who die in their sleep, and what that must be like in regards to the dreamscape..... Good night.

I always set my alarm a half hour before I have to get up and hit the snooze button every five minutes. I often have dreams during those 5 minute periods that seem like they last for hours. I'll wake up and be astonished that just 5 minutes has gone by.

However I'd rather have that than sleep paralysis. Sleep paralysis isn't that bad if you can get past the "oh my god, I can't move" and the "what if I stop breathing" phase. Laying there with no sound, no light and not being able to move is an experience that can be rough though. Especially if you can't shake yourself out of it. Usually only takes me 10 seconds to force myself awake, occasionally it'll feel like minutes. For some reason it's a lot easier (for me) if I get sensory input also. I think it distracts from thole "I'm paralyzed" mindset.
