But if you play the "Maybe I'm Amazed" credits backwards you get a recipe for a really ripping lentil soup

Hmm... didn't think it was an episode that needed salvaging, to be honest. I think it still holds up great.

It's full of great gags. 1: Aww, AWW, AWW!!!, Get out of the way. 2: Hot dogs *everything including a shoe 3: BYOBB - that's a typo 4: Go back to Russia! 5: It's just a little airborne. It's still good! 6: What if someone wants non-alcoholic beer? Such a great episode

If anything, I felt it was a pretty good episode with a good moral: stay true to your beliefs but don't deny other people their right to stay true to theirs.

The McCartney cameo IS extremely lame, as it's just Paul growling about how far superior vegans are to vegetarians (and ultimately, meat lovers). As someone who loves eating meat, I just want to slap the shit out of Lisa, Paul, and Paul's now dead wife through out the whole episode.

My problem with this ep is summed up with that line "Actually Dad, I was wrong...too."

It really seems like you're taking this episode way too seriously. Hell, it's the Simpsons. No episode should be taken seriously. Besides, considering how much Homer eats meat, one episode about being a vegan or vegetarian should be harmless.

In my opinion the MEAT AND YOU: PARTNERS IN FREEDOM film segment almost fully excuses this episode from any kind of criticism what so ever.

It's not really a floor it's more of a steel grating that allows material to sluice through so it can be collected and exported. Also from rewatching it I am tempted to give someone a "Graduate of Bovine University" personal title. I'd use Grade A Moron but that seems a bit harsh

I guess it's true what they say, you don't win friends with salad. Also, LtV had one my favorite Mr. Burns gags of all time in it. Burns: "You know, Smithers, I think I'll donate a million dollars to the local orphanage ... when pigs fly!" [Burns and Smithers laugh. Then, they notice Homer's pig soar by.] Smithers: "Will you be donating that million dollars now, sir?" Burns: "No, I'd still prefer not." People hate this episode?!

My problem with this ep is summed up with that line "Actually Dad, I was wrong...too." Why? They were both obviously wrong. Homer was insensitive to Lisa's desire to change her lifestyle for, in her mind, the better, and Lisa (being 8 years old and all) didn't exactly have the tact to address the situation in a gentler way. I mean, like was said earlier, it's not something that really needs to be taken seriously but it's refreshing to see them share the blame instead of trying to assign 100% of it to someone when there's plenty to go around.

The episode's moral is that just because you believe in a cause or lifestyle doesn't mean people who don't adhere to it are wrong or evil. If anything, Lisa is depicted as being over-sensitive in it so I don't see how it's a "Lisa is always right, and everyone else is always wrong!". Also, McCartney saying vegans are better than everyone else is a joke. It's NOT what you're actually supposed to take away from the scene.
