I figure the problem is no one else who's healthy is built up enough to pose a kayfabe threat for Cena or Orton except maybe Rusev who's busy with Big Show. Sheamus is busy with Miz and basically anyone not in the authority storyline has been second banana. So we get Orton/Cena because who else are they going to face? I guess the logic is that Cena still gets to take on an authority member since he has a beef with them ever since last month. I'd rather see a midcard face step up to Orton and see Cena wrestle a midcard heel since "Cena wins" anyway.

I like the prospect of Cena-Orton fighting on the top of the cage. They didn't do that in their last Cell match, did they?

Was it Royal Rumble 08 or 09 where these two went face to face to tease a Mania match and were met with dead silence? That still stands out to me as one of the bigger WWE fails. Funnier thing about that was Cena's other confrontation getting a big reaction before the one with Orton. That man? Kofi Kingston.

I wish Cena/Orton headlined every PPV. Then we could just turn the TV off and pretend they don't work for WWE.

"Not gonna root for Cena? Fine, Ambrose wins you assholes. CENA/ORTON IT IS! Don't like it? Buy more Cena tampons and knock it off with the booing."

With Orton being on fire lately we might as well get our best Orton vs Cena match(which isn't much).

It's hilarious how they still push this awful feud.

I think they know, they just have no where else to go (willingly). Yea it's like they either lack talent on the roster or the main event scene is so locked down where nobody else can enter that you always end up with the same guys. I don't understand why they changed their original idea of Cena vs Ambrose and the winner getting Rollins on the same night. It would have been epic, worth a PPV buy or worth the 9.99. But not this. WWE's problems these days are some weird mishmosh of AWA and All Japan's past problems. run by an old man whose way past it and refuses to change, coupled with a show booked around 6-8 guys and no idea (or willingness) to elevate anyone else.

It's hilarious how they still push this awful feud. You can really tell Vince wanted these two to be his new Hogan/Savage or Austin/McMahon feud; With Cena playing the beloved babyface and Randy the hated heel. The first problem is Randy lacks any sort of tangible charisma and arguably Cena never caught fire with the fans due his obnoxious booking. The second issue is their matches have been, as far as I can remember, lackluster.

I don't think WWE thinks the fans care for Cena and Orton again, I just think after they booked the original match last week (and saw the reactions) they realized that for now they couldn't put Cena in the position the crowd feels should be Ambrose's. Kind of similar to what happened with Bryan last year but they didn't waste nearly half a year keeping him out of "his" angle.

The "loser has to feud with Orton" stipulation says it all, it should be a regular punishment for people. Imagine Kofi losing such a match, the poor guy would be devastated.

From an onscreen standpoint, John Cena and Randy Orton are the two most successful, dominant performers the WWE has had since the Attitude Era ended. Their world championship reigns are both in double digits, they've had a decades-worth of sustained glory, and they are always shuffling around in the main event scene. When they face off, it SHOULD be the biggest thing in wrestling. The problem is, when they do meet in the ring, it's margarine on white bread. It's warm, flat diet soda. It's inoffensive, it's largely forgettable, but the most damning thing is that it's boring.
When these two hugely successful former champions go head-to-head, fans should be going bananas. It should be the current generation's Hogan and Savage or Austin and Rock, but because we've seen them wrestle so many times in literally every single gimmick match possible, and each time is somehow more boring than the last, the fans just tune out.
I don't know who is to blame or whose fault it is that these two just can't captivate a live audience when they are in the ring together, but the moment WWE should have realized, "OK, never again with these two," was the moment everyone's been mentioning, at the 2010 Royal Rumble, when Orton and Cena had that big stare down, and nobody f***ing cared.

You nailed it. I mean, there's also a lack of creativity, the whole thing with Ambrose, Rollins, Cena, The Authority, it's such a bore to watch every week. They have no idea what to do, they resort to stupid green goo stuff, they have "the two challengers teaming up" crap. How can you f*** up having great talent like Rollins and Ambrose? It should be easy.

Looks like everyone's said it, but Cena could be in a Rest Holds only 30 Minute Iron Match with Orton as long as he's not in the cell with Seth.
