Has this bothered anyone else that they never had an episode where they went home or the parents visited or something? Are they orphans?

WEll they all seem to live in that one house... so I guess....
I think the more pressing question is why is Kermit a frog if he's a baby?
Baby frogs are Tadpoles! The scientific accuracy of the show is questionable at best.

If Charlie Brown is any indication, bound and gagged?
Too bad the babies aren't cognizant enough to go get help.

Taking it seriously for a moment, I always made it canon to where they were the happiest orphans that ever lived. It's probably the best "baby" show of all time.

I assumed they were all the children of their adult counterparts from the movies and tv-actually I thought they were Kermit and Miss Piggy's kids-I put very little thought into it

Not just that - I remember Bunsen and Beaker were only there every so often, and yet no one ever asked or wondered where they were during those off times.
Personally, Nanny's upper half was a giant amalgamation of the various animals and monsters. She was all their mothers, which means Miss Piggy is gross for desiring her brother.
Trust me, that saved me a lot of headaches, and thankfully I'm (obviously) insane enough that Nanny the FrogPigDogBearAnimalOrangeoidWeirdo fits right in with little/no harm done to my psyche.

I always thought she looked like June Cleaver, since Barbara Billingsley did the voice

And what happened to Skeeter? We've seen the grown up Scooter with the other Muppets, but little Skeeter never made it out of the nursery. Did she die?

The scientific accuracy of the show is questionable at best. They did an episode where Kermit's sister had a baby and they introduced the babies to Robin, a tadpole in a fishbowl. Frogs don't have just one baby, unless... OMG this muppet's a killer!

And somehow, Statler and Wardorf became their uncles in later seasons

the government found these creatures and didn't know if they were dangerous or not.they were being held in a facility and being subjected to tests. Nanny was actually spelled Nani and was an acronym for Neo Automated Nurturing Invention. that's why you never saw her face and why they used June Cleaver's voice.

Hmm, we need someone to comment on all the theories in this thread.
Speaking of, did he ever appear on the show?

I think Bunsen & Beaker were working in conjunction with Statler & Waldorf to run experiments on them, these experiments included constant negative reinforcement from the old men & continue into the Muppet's adult years as evidenced by their heckling on The Muppet Show

And they likely had a higher intelligence because of their surroundings. or they were the ones doing the testing on the other babies.... And their occasional visits were just to have up-close interaction to investigate the effects of the experiment. And once they left the room, Beaker spoke intelligently and coherently. Likely in the voice of Patrick Stewart or Morgan Freeman.
