I'm currently watching the Monday Night Wars and Bret Hart says something about Vince in the Attitude Era getting more heat than anyone ever.
Do you think this is true? More heat than Slaughter during the whole Iraq thing? Than Hogan in NWO?

Vince may have gotten the most heat as a "heel" - in the attitude era.
However, in my mind, and this is just my opinion - I believe the greatest heel of all time is Ted Dibiase Sr.

Triple H is my pick. He was such a good heel that people still hate him on an irrational, personal level to this day.

Triple H is my pick. He was such a good heel that people still hate him on an irrational, personal level to this day. 2000, 2002-2004 Triple H may have been the most hated man in WWE by leaps and bounds. He was a great heel too, never really had to resort to the cheap heat tactics. Edge was gaining fantastic momentum as a heel, especially in the summer of 2005, until they paired him against Cena and he got over as anti hero with some members of the audience. I'd still consider him among the best.

Triple H for me. I loathed the dude so much in the 2000's. But now I only loathe him if opens up Raw with a 20 minute promo and then all the loathing from when I was younger comes rushing back as the promo goes on. I literally cringe at HHH promos.

I'm reading Jericho's third book now, I think we could certainly count him at a certain point considering not long after he punched Mrs. HBK, fans legitimately tried to attack him.

Triple H was my most hated heel ever to the point he is at Cena levels of hate. The period where I started to hate him was the D-X version. Right after Shawn left and Triple H took over as leader. I honestly couldn't stand D-X in this time period. 2006 D-X I loved like crazy. One of the biggest things that bothered me was his feud with Owen Hart. The fact that the feud lasted well past Mania and Owen never got the big payoff in the feud. Triple H using the underhandded tactics and the.....ugh.....Chyna multiple interference and nobody doing shit to stop it made me cringe every single time he would have a match. That and how he always seemed to have to be champion didn't help. His championship reigns then are like Cenas reigns now. Always winning, never dropping it (or if he did drop the title it wasn't dropped long enough or often enough) and the fact that he was the main focus and burying others just to suit his own ego.

Vince McMahon had his own daughter kidnapped, brainwashed Mick Foley, had a bounty out for Steve Austin, embarrassed JR on numerous occasions, won the ECW title, cheated on his wife in front of his comatose wife, beat his son, beat his daughter, and forced a woman to bark like a dog. So much more that I'm missing surely but...it's Vince.

Triple H '99-'05.
Man, I straight up hated Triple H back then. I was in junior high/high school and I absolutely loathed the guy. I remember going to school and being so pissed about what he did on Raw the night before and just talking to my friends about it the next day. He really made you hate him with all the antics he did. It was like every angle dealt with him to some degree as well. Some parts where you think that maybe Triple H had nothing to do with it, come to find out he was behind it. One example was the "who hit Austin" storyline. We went through the motions and come to find out it might be Rock, next thing we know it's Rikishi. We think it's Rikishi for a while but guess what? Nope! It's Triple-f***ing-H. Man, I was floored.
Even worse?
The "Shawn gets attacked in the parking lot" thing. Triple H was already in a damn feud with HBK and in the middle of a promo against him, he gets called to the back. Come to find out someone took Shawn out and Triple H is worried, very worried, the dude immediately called off the feud to look for his friend. The next time we hear from HBK (a week or 2 later) he's talking to Triple H as friends and Shawn shows the footage. The assailant was Triple H. What? Are you kidding me?
That was insane.
Man I just couldn't stand that guy.

Hollywood Rock was the most entertaining, but I guess he doesn't count because you had to love him

I'd say Triple H. He's an awesome heel.

I'm reading Jericho's third book now, I think we could certainly count him at a certain point considering not long after he punched Mrs. HBK, fans legitimately tried to attack him. If I recall it was in Vancouver and they attacked him while he was getting into his car because he'd cut a promo where he denounced his Canadian citizenship. I'll be honest, it mostly just makes me happy that full blown marks like that exist (luckily no one was foolish enough to cut a scathing heel promo at the house show I went to in Red Deer last year. There might have been a riot ). EDIT: Sorry, not sure why I said Lethbridge when it was actually Red Deer.

The reason why I can't give it to Vince is because Vince wasn't a wrestler. It's the same reason why you can't call Stephanie the best heel in the company right now.
Yes, Vince would get into the ring and take bumps, but one of the main reasons that makes a good heel is the anticipation for his comeuppance. You want to see him get his ass kicked so badly.
Now, did you wanna see Vince get his ass kicked? Absolutely, but Steve Austin was 20 years younger and a wrestler. He should kick Vince's ass.
With Flair and HHH and Jericho and whoever else, there's always the seed of doubt that they'll get what's coming to them because they're capable wrestlers.
It was satisfying to watch Austin beat up Vince, but at the end of the day, McMahon was just the owner and an announcer(albeit, a jacked-up one) and not a real wrestler.

There was nothing like that at the show I went to but it was kind of an eye opener hearing people who are, like, 30 screaming "KICK HIS ASS, R-TRUTH!" in the opening match. No way can these people watch every single week and yet they're up on every single storyline.

In terms of character, yeah. In-ring performer the best heel I've seen is Randy Savage.

John Cena.
You only have to read a thread about him on here to see why he is the greatest heel of all time
