I know a lot of people say they were but personally I do not really think so. Yes They had similar outfits with the Face Paint and maybe even the type of gear they wore but in my opinion, they both wrestled different styles I think the Demolition were better wrestlers and had better matches then The Road Warriors who were more of a power based team.

They were absolutely created to be Road Warriors knock-offs. That they did something none of the other LOD-a-be's did and become a tag team in their own right and even better in ways than the Warriors speaks volumes of their talent and ability.

I don't know. This was the 80s after all. Wasn't hair, leather and facepaint kind of generic back then? No doubt they had similarities but it would have been odd given the time period if there wasn't at a tag team or singles wrestler who didn't have that kind of 'Kiss/bondage' look.
They also didn't really ape their mannerisms as you'd expect for something set up just to be a rip-off.

Yes but they were skilled enough to evolve beyond that as a Tag Team.

They were; they just weren't as blatant about it as Powers of Pain.
Speaking of tag team ripoffs, I was a amused watching the NWA invasion of Raw in 1997 to see the Rock 'n' Roll Express using the theme music of the Rockers, who were shameless ripoffs of the R'n'RE. Ripception.

They are the most successful Road Warriors knockoffs. Like Hulk Hogan is the most successful Superstar Graham knockoff and Ric Flair was the greatest Buddy Rogers impersonator.

Like the Blade Runners, they were knockoffs that became their own thing and surpassed the original in many ways.

Initially yes, but they became much better than the Road Warriors IMO

Their drop from WM6 to WM7 was incredible. From world champs to jobber tag team. I know Ax taking a back seat then leaving hurt them but wow what a fall

'Rip-Off' is a subjective term. Were Bill Eadie and WWE aware of the Road Warriors? Absolutely. No question. I see no way that Eadie and WWE were not conscious of the Road Warriors when they were developing Demolition. Is it a 'rip-off?' Maybe. They weren't trying to pass them off as the Road Warriors. They were trying to create their own scary-looking tag team. Were the Road Warriors on their mind? I say yes.
Think of it this way: After creating Demolition, could Bill Eadie and WWE honestly be able to say, "Oh wow! We didn't even think about there being a team with a similar look called the Road Warriors. Damn. We weren't even thinking of them!"
No. They couldn't say that. Don't get stuck on the word 'rip-off.'

Neither guy was ripped, or had mowhawks. They wore s sms type clothes. Take the face paint off and nobody would have considered them a rip off. They were completely their own deal. POP now there was a major rip off, started by the same company as the Road Warriors were in.

I always associate Powers of Pain as more of a LOD ripoff, their look was far more similar compared to Demolition, who while wearing paint and spikes and such still looked different enough. Speaking of Road Warrior rip off, these ones are hilarious: (from this awesome, awesome thread officialfan.proboards.com/thread/507680/best-worst-memphis-video-thread ) Jack Hammer: The Dream Warriors: Just beautiful. I love: "We've been waiting for this to happen...our time's comin', the time is comin'..you has'n know what your...you dont know what's coming twords ya...you gonna say what the heck are these guys on!" Also funny how both managers like to use the word "baby" so much, Im guessing the Dream Warriors manager is meant to be some sort of Paul E type.

I hate the term "ripoffs". You might as well say Ric Flair was a ripoff of Buddy Rogers, the Rockers were a ripoff of R&R Express, and Jesse Ventura was a ripoff of Superstar Graham. Every character in wrestling is INSPIRED BY and BORROWS FROM another character, be it a wrestling character, movie character, etc. Demolition was inspired by the Road Warriors, but they made it based on their own charisma and their own merits as a tag team. As others have said, Demolition were not as physically impressive as Hawk & Animal, but in many respects they were a superior tag team.

I think the difference there is that the Road Warriors weren't just on their mind, Demolition was a conscious effort to emulate the Warriors. McMahon simply wanted his own set, while Eadie took that and set out to do that but also be as original as possible as well.

I never felt that they were ripoffs, unlike the WWF, who treated them as such once they signed the Road Warriors. Demolition had the face paint and spikes similarity, but that's where it ended. Ax and Smash worked a completely different style from the L.O.D. and were dominant in their own right. They didn't just overpower their opponents, but they were well rounded performers who could brawl and wrestle.

McMahon simply wanted his own set, while Eadie took that and set out to do that but also be as original as possible as well. I would go so far as to say that they were actually a very bad Road Warriors ripoff. Like, as in, the person who was put in charge of coming up with the concept of a Road Warriors-like team, looked at a photo of them for, like 3 seconds and said "Got it: facepaint and leather clothes. Moondog guy, Mask guy, I got a gimmick for ya...". I doubt that it was intentional that they looked like a couple of weird S&M guys, rather than a couple of post-apocalyptic bikers on a steady diet of power moves. The fact that Eadie and Darsow gelled as a team, and worked their own styles, is what took it so much further than your standard "power and paint" knockoff.

I had to go with the "kinda" option, RR inspired Demolition with out a doubt, but Demolition made it their own.

I don't think so. They had a different style from Road Warriors. Demoliton was more of a cut the ring of and beat the crap out of you team. Road Warriors were pure power and impact.

Absolutely. People saying the hoods prove they werent... they were kinda modeled after this... From the movie The Road Warrior where Hawk and Animal got almost all of their gimmick from (including the name)

Did Vince create them to be one? Yes.
Did I or many other fans look at them as such. Absolutely not.
I'm sure some fans were aware of the Road Warriors, but usually people who were directly exposed to the WWF from an early age and nothing else, then no. It also helped that Demolition was a far better tag team than they ever get credit for.
