So to only further emphasize that the Hanley Ramirez deal is the same impending train wreck that the Carl Crawford contract was, Ramirez will wear #13, the same jersey number Crawford wore during his tenure in Boston.
EDIT - Interestingly enough, Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington at a press conference just announced Hanley Ramirez as the team's new leftfielder. So this must mean that Yoenis Cespedes is definitely gone, which, as I've said in previous days, is something I do not like. Even more interesting is the fact that Hanley Ramirez has played as many games in left field in his MLB career as you or I.

so Sandy alderson said he said that he's willing to give up another draft pick to sign a player later on in the offseason at a discount it's not sure who exactly he has in mind just yet
those players could be David Robertson, Andrew Miller, Melky Cabrera, and Nelson Cruz
*sigh*

Wouldn't mind Robertson though.

That's the big catch; much as it'd bug me for a bit to think that Cuddyer could be the only significant move the Mets make all offseason, the simple fact is that there aren't a whole lot of attractive options out there, or at least not many the Mets can reasonably afford given the LOLWILPONS factor. I'm actually ok with the idea of Wilmer Flores at shortstop, but I'd be hesitant to play him and Murphy up the middle all year.

ESPN's Jayson Stark heard from two sources that the Yankees offered the Phillies "a utility player" for shortstop Jimmy Rollins.
The Phillies seem to have a lofty asking price for Rollins, who turns 36 years old this week and is owed $11 million next season in the final year of his four-year, $44 million deal. They're simply not going to be able to get a top prospect or young, productive major league talent in exchange for the veteran shortstop.

Bullpen pitcher Zach Duke was signed earlier in the week, now Adam LaRoche is penciled in as the DH/1B. Gotta hand it to the White Sox: their choices for free agents may not be sexy, but they make sense. Will LaRoche play first for you guys? I'm a Nats fan, the guy can still pick it and saved a ton of errors with his glove. Your defense will improve by just having him there. Abreu is the first baseman, although if a lefty-heavy lineup comes around, they wouldn't hesitate to put Adam there. LaRoche will get a couple starts per week to spell Jose. Another hot-button topic: the Sox may throw SS (and your two-time, two-time Silver Slugger winner) Alexei Ramirez on the trading block to see what's available.

The White Sox and Tigers have interest in free agent Justin Masterson, per Paul Hoynes.

That's pretty goddamn stupid. There will be more players iinvolved but right now it just seems Billy Beane got a man boner for Brett Lawrie.

Franklin Barreto is a good prospect (although several years away), but the other two pitchers are mediocre back end types.

Deal is done.
Athletics trade Josh Donaldson to Toronto for Brett Lawrie, Kendall Graveman, Franklin Barretto, and Sean Nolin.

Athletics outfielder Josh Reddick said he was shocked by the news.
"This doesn't make sense to me," Reddick told Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle. "We just traded our best player the last two years."

Is there a reason the A's are blowing up the team?
