I'm not a Sony hater or anything, but it seems like the PSP hasn't quite performed to expectations. UMD movies are a total flop, and the PSP's one killer app (Liberty City Stories) has been ported to PS2. I just wanted to know what other people thought of this.

No
It's a sign that Rockstar figured they could squeez more cash out of a game
I honestly didn't see UMD's taking off, who wants 2 versions of 1 film or a version that won't play on a widely avaliable format such as DVD

If you want an all-in-one media device get the PSP. But if you already have an Ipod or Video Ipod, just get a DS. There are way more quality games for the DS than the PSP.
Also, if you noticed from E3 Sony only mentioned the number of PSPs they shipped, not what they sold, and Nintendo called them out on it. The UMD was indeed a failure, although they tried to spin it by making it sound like selling less UMDs than PSPs was a good thing, when in reality they should be about even. The fact is that no one does handhelds like Nintendo. Even the biggest game company today tried an attack, and they are slowly starting to fade.

DS is easily the better gaming device. The PSP, to me, is nothing but undeveloped potential. Unfortunately, that ship has sort of sailed. The UMD disaster was something all non-retarded people saw coming a mile away, but Sony at times pushed that as the main selling point.

I could see Rockstar putting Liberty City Stories on PS2 after it had been out for like a year on PSP. Just seems like they did it pretty quickly.

The UMD disaster was that No one bought the UMD's because the movies for it were overpriced and had NO special features.

If the DS is too much for you, then the PSP is out of the question.
And UMD is the format that movies play on on the PSP. However, UMD (which stands for Universal Media Disk) only plays on the PSP, so you have to buy 2 versions of a movie if you want one to watch on the PSP and one to watch at home. The last I've checked, they only sold 1/10 the amount of UMDs to PSPs. But even if its gone up some, its still been a failure.

A couple of production companies have stopped making UMD's altogether, and more are joining them every day.

If you like mario DEFINATELY get the DS. New Super Mario Bros. is a great old school Mario game with new school moves. Plus you can play GBA games on it.
Other great games for the DS Meteos (puzzle game) Tetris DS Brain Age (believe me, its fun) Castlevania Metroid Prime: Hunters Kirby Canvas Curse
Add that with all the great GBA games, and you've got a great game system

Is the DS lite just a better version at the same price?
And when do you think the DS price will go down?

The DS Lite is smaller & a bit brighter, so if you're going to carry it around a lot in your pockets then that might be a better deal.
And if you want one on the cheap check to find one used. Should be less than $100 that way. The price for a new one will probably drop in a few months after the Lite is on the market for a bit.

That's sorta sucky

Does the original GTAs coming out on Xbox and PC indicate that PS2 is a bomb?
