Seeing it this weekend. Really good article in Entertainment Weekly a couple weeks back about how Gyllenhaal has spent the last few years quietly becoming one of the better actors around, hope he gets some more due with this one.

Saw it last night. Go see it. It's excellent. Jake Gyllenhaal just oozes creepiness and the story is unique enough to where the thrills are real and very anticipatory.

So this isn't related to X-Men at all? Because the previews look intriguing, but I kept thinking there'd be X-Men somehow tied in, which would ruin it (for me).

This one is in my top 3 films to see this year. It was honestly kind of a bummer year for me in terms of films I really wanted to see in the theater, thankfully the last quarter of 2014 is picking up for me.
Nightcrawler Birdman Why Don't You Go Play In Hell?
John Wick is on the list but not that high up.

Keanau is brilliant in the role - some of the stunts are mind boggling

I've been intrigued in this film mostly for the use of Kendrick Lamar's "Backseat Freestyle" in the trailers. However, what I've been reading about it is pulling me in on a plot level. Definitely a movie I wanna check out at some point.

Awesome movie. I hated to see it end, I wanted more, which is an obvious sign that I really enjoyed it.

I liked it. It was a good film and everything and Gyllenhaal's performance was great and I liked a lot of touches and things they did but I don't know something felt missing for me. Like I know it was a great film but it didn't feel like a great film to me. Same feeling I had with Blade Runner.

Film makers should go that extra mile and make a movie called X-force. Which is about a group of ex-cops finding work elsewhere.

Just got back from seeing it and Gyllenhaal nailed the character, big time. Cinematically it looked really, really good too. Most interestingly was... {Spoiler}The utter lack of character arc for Bloom which really built tension through out the entire film. I was really drawn in by the notion that NO ONE was going to be his foil or that there would be no comeuppance for him. There were no sympathetic characters either - even his assistant was fairly amoral.
At first it left me feeling very unfulfilled by the film itself (despite enjoying the ride) but after thinking about it on the drive home I really feel like it mirrored a lot about today's news media perfectly. Lou Bloom would be heralded as a genius in today's news media landscape because much of the news media acts as sociopathically as he does. It became a very interesting and dark social commentary that reminded me why I don't bother watching the news in the first place. Not only news, but most big businesses and organizations who put achieving their goal above human decency. And how they can talk themselves into believing that human life/human deceny isn't as important as accomplishing their goals.
Also Rene Russo's whole character was even more depressing and creepy than Bloom's lack thereof.

Batman vs Superman should be interesting too. Seems like an odd existential art film where a Major League Baseball bat boy is confronted by Zarathustra and forced to contemplate his life.

{Spoiler}I enjoyed it up until the end. I thought the LAPD let him off way too easy considering 4 people, including the death of a police officer was on his hands. Just didn't seem realistic considering how much evidence was against him. Him finally seeing some justice over how far he took creating his own news should have came back to cause his downfall.

Judging from how unscrupulous the actual news media can be, I'd say the ending was actually more realistic, but I agree it wasn't as satisfying as a story.
