Owen Hart wasn't dead, it was all a work and he would be the Greater Power.

A guy at school tried to convince me that Ultimate Warrior died and he was being played by Randy Savage in a mask.

One of my friends who doesn't watch wrestling and was never really into it STILL thinks that Vince McMahon is a character played by an actor and not the actual owner of WWE and that there has been at least 10 Undertakers.

I remember in the early 90's when the Undertaker was just starting to take off and Flair, Luger and Sid were just arriving in the WWF. There was rumblings about WCW's franchise Sting following them to New York and was going to be a heel named Viper.

I've never heard that about Taker. I could Understand with Kane or Ultimate Warrior, since their faces were obscured. But Taker has obviously looked like the same man forever. It's pretty much like saying there were multiple Macho Men.

I remember the rumor being that Kurt Angle would defend the WWF Title in the 2001 Royal Rumble match as a continuation of the "Kurt Angle vs. The World" storyline he had as WWF Champion. Would have been cool.

I've posted this before in similar threads, but I remember the rumor that Paul Wight's WWF name was going to be Titan.

In the 1990s I used to actually think that there was two Vince McMahons. The real Vince McMahon who owned the company who we never saw (Probably some old fat guy with glasses) and the actor Vince McMahon who played him onscreen. I finally just accepted Vince was Vince in the late New Generation/early Attitude Era time frame.

1. Yokozuna was going to come back as a member of the Nation of Domination, then the Hart Foundation, then the Corporation.
2. Eric Bischoff as GM was going to restart the Invasion with a super stable of Booker T, Scott Steiner, Kevin Nash and Goldberg.
3. There was supposed to of been at least 5 different War Games matches in WWE since they've purchased WCW.
4. The Higher Power was going to be Jake "The Snake" Roberts but then he had rock bottomed. Uh, again.
5. It wasn't the real Ultimate Warrior who returned in 1992, it was a fake, and the real one had died, which is why he wore a singlet and looked smaller.
6. The Renegade was actually the Ultimate Warrior. lol.
7. It was supposed to be Goldberg that debuted at the 2000 Royal Rumble, not Taz. While Taz was still coming to WWF, it was supposed to be Goldberg debuting that night but a deal fell through.
8. Hulk Hogan was supposed to jump ship to WWF in January 1998 (NOTE: According to Bruce Pritchard in his guest booker, this is actually true. But then again, that's Bruce Pritchard saying that.)
9. Taz was supposed to face Steve Corino at November 2 Remember 1999 after they had been feuding for a good part of the year, but Taz refused to face him even if it meant he won.
10. Ric Flair was going to jump to the WWF in the spring of 1998.
11. Randy Savage was the cause of Hulk Hogan's black eye prior to WrestleMania IX. I still believe this one to be true.
12. Dusty Rhodes had booked Rick Steiner to defeat Ric Flair for the World Title in 30 seconds at Starrcade '88 and it was the next to final nail in the coffin (the legitimate final nail in the coffin being Dusty breaking the no blood policy in the eye gouging angle).
13. The Undertaker was supposed to come out of the egg at Survivor Series 1990.
14. The Invasion angle was supposed to stretch until WrestleMania X-8. WCW/ECW were supposed to win at Survivor Series, gain control and then the final showdown would be at WM X-8 where the WWF would finally win once and for all.
15. Papa Shango was supposed to be involved in the Undertaker/Kane storyline.

The GTV vignettes of a hidden camera filming wrestlers doing embarrassing things backstage was suppose to be Goldust. Stevie Richards and the Blue Meanie parody of the Blair Witch project called the Blond Bitch project was done to mock Sable's departure and pending lawsuit against the company, but was also rumored to be the return of Sunny to replace and get back at Sable.

I was super young, but I think I also remember reading/hearing that the Higher Power was going to be Jake.
Actually, as someone who was a little Robers mark in 1996 (no idea why), it could've just been me hoping it'd be him.

From BlackJack Brown's old wrestling column in the Chicago Sun Times:
Sick Boy from the flock was spoked to debut in WWF in 1999 and feud with Triple H over the master of the pedigree
Viscera and Mideon were to get a huge push and win the tag titles
Shane Douglas, Konnan, Kidman and Rey Mysterio jumping to WWF with the rest of the Radicalz
Tazz going to WCW in early 1999
Jericho's original name was to be Millennium Man

Jericho's original name was to be Millennium Man Before that, actually, the big rumor was he was to be named Excalibur. Regarding Jake and the higher power, it was so rampant that a LOT of the then-major wrestling sites got trolled with a fake version of the results of one show with his "reveal". One of my all-time favorites that I don't see mentioned a lot anymore is the one about Paul Bearer's stable expanding beyond Mankind and Executioner by bringing back Papa Shango and Underfaker. And that reminds me of one even before that, of them bringing in Angel of Death to fight Undertaker not too long after UT's first face turn.
