My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic: I think the show is good but not great. However I've had way too many bad cases of me not thinking it's the greatest thing since slice bread and being looked down as a person at because of my opinion on the show.
Invader Zim: It's super easy to tell who's really a legit Zim fan and who's just a fan of GIR and only buys the merchandise. 95% of the Zim fans I have seen quote like 2 lines from GIR and know nothing else about the show. Some of them don't even know who Dib is ffs. Maybe that's just my bad luck.
Add another vote for Tim Burton as well. I think the guy is a hell of a director and I think he should be known better then just the guy who made The Nightmare Before Christmas and people believing that's the only style he can pull off well. His two Batman movies and Ed Wood are really good movies that are not as dark and Gothic as say TNBC.
Attack On Titan: People quit talking about how this is the best anime in the last decade. It's the same story with MLP. I don't think it's a bad anime but it's not the holy crap greatest thing ever as most people see it as.

See, I define this subject not so much by what causes me to turn on something, but more as when something or someone becomes really popular and the backlash hits and ruins it for the people who actually like it. Example: Dane Cook. He got so popular for a while that people turned against him, viciously and brutally, and they used the dumbest argument possible. "He doesn't actually tell any jokes" So? A lot of popular comedians don't tell "jokes", I don't remember the last time I heard a joke from Louis C.K., for example, who, by the way, brought Cook on his show a couple years back to clear the air about the allegation that he stole three jokes from Louie, essentially confirming that he didn't. But the backlash has meant we haven't heard very much from him in the last few years, and now were stuck with Jeff Dunham. I hope you're all happy As for something being ruined for me personally by people talking too much about it, I get really sick of people saying how great Bob's Burgers is, it's not AWFUL, but it's not the second coming of The Simpsons.

It's not because the original show will not pass the torch. Also, I think it gets love at least partially because people want to see something non-Groening/non-McFarlane get over.

This is how I am. I've never let hype, popularity or backlash ruin something that I enjoy, but I have had several instances where I simply stop talking about certain things with other people, because it's easier to enjoy when you don't have to deal with all the overzealous fanboys and haters. I'm sure it also helps that I don't use Facebook, Twitter or Tumblr either, since I'm guessing those are where most of the over-saturation and backlash comes from.

Only outspoken jerkasses do this type of thing. Try not to let it get to you.
