Really? This is gonna be the first AO game that Steam sells? Why the hell is this game the hill that they want to die on? Why does it bother you so much that they sell whatever they feel like selling? I also don't see how it's "the hill they want to die on". It's not like they're passionately defending or promoting the game. They're just allowing to sell it on their platform. I don't give a shit what Steam sells or doesn't sell, but now they have set a precedent. If they had some line in the sand that they were unwilling to cross, then it looks like they've ignored it for this game, or they've changed their minds. Now, they've opened the door for future games of a "controversial nature" to be distributed on their site. Why gamers are looking for morality in video games is beyond me. Gamers, like any other consumer, have the power to simply not purchase/play a game that they find offensive.

Steam working people to get this game more publicity.
"Hey this game's gonna play like crap and probably won't sell, but if we make it seem more "controversial" than it really is we can drive up sales."
So they banned it, like the shit storm fly, brought it back so demand is higher than ever and Steam gets their cut of whatever the game makes. Beautiful. The timing was perfect too, fresh of GG.

That's the first time? When they have Manhunt, every 3D-era GTA, and the Postal games, the original of which, unlike Hatred (despite what this thread's title lies about), DID include a school-shooting level. That said, I agree with your second statement. I just don't get people who get pissed at the notion of other people being allowed to enjoy something they don't. This is far more vulgar and aggressive than any pretentious virtual gorefest.

They supposedly took a stand against this game for whatever reason, and now they can't exactly go back to it in the future should something like this happen again.

Censorship of art is bad, you might not like what it says or who says it but you have no f***ing right to try and silence someones voice. However a part of the gaming world thinks thats ok, its sickening.

It's only real censorship if it's a government entity doing it. Stores refusing to sell it is not censorship, especially with digital PC games as there's always one way or another to get it.
I have a problem with the former and I absolutely would not support this game getting banned by a government entity even if I think both the game and at least a couple of the people who worked on it are pure trash, and I'm also sure the people who are interested in this game have tastes I'd find questionable (at best). This is something that happens outside of the United States in countries like the UK and infamously Australia, and I really don't like it. But I have no problems with the latter. Stores are under no obligation to sell something they don't want to.
I do have to say I am genuinely surprised that Steam is selling ANY Adults Only game, though. That's usually the black mark of death for game sales in the US as far as retail goes. The only other AO games I'm aware of that aren't just blatant porn games usually get toned down to an M rating (GTA San Andreas post-Hot Coffee, console versions of Manhunt 2).

It's been released. Unless it's inaccurate, I heard somewhere that sales were better than one of Star Wars' games, can't remember which one.

If it gets released, sales will definitely skyrocket. The Streisand effect is now fully in place.

I still believe this game will be a hoot, just how hilariously over the top it'll be. For a legit video game experience that takes you on a ride, yeah.... that's not what you're getting with this game. But if you want a game to be super violent and laugh at how ridiculous it is... that's the purpose of this game. I honestly don't see anyone putting in any marathon play sessions of this, just a little bit here and there and then move on to something else. It's essentially a quarter-muncher where you start it up, get a quick fix, then move on to the actual game you want to devote your time to.

Banned from being streamed on twitch because it violates their no AO games rule.

Why is School shooter still in the title of this thread. There's no Schools or children in the game.

However a part of the gaming world thinks thats ok, its sickening. From what they have presented of the game it can be strongly argued that it has no artistic merit. Or really ANY merit. However, I don't believe, think, or feel that the game should be censored.

However, I don't believe, think, or feel that the game should be censored. Agree with both points. Again, this game has the right to exist and people can play it if they want. But it's really not looking like something worth playing. I stand by my metaphor earlier: what "A Serbian Film" was to extreme sex in movies, "Hatred" is to extreme video game violence. Despite all claims its makers may have to the contrary, they're making low-brow trash and being controversial and extreme for the sake of being controversial and extreme. And it'll inevitably spark a media firestorm, and probably go on to have a cult following among "edgy" game aficionados.
