Oh I forgot one of the main things, the NXT bookers listen to the crowd and book the show according to their reactions.
They book the main roster shows as if the crowd weren't there, they ignored the huge reactions Bryan was getting in favour of Batista when even Big Dave himself knew that would be rejected.
That's another way they can book Raw like NXT.
They can also make sure they humour comes naturally from characters rather than awkward forced lines and situations.

Can WWE book logical storylines on Raw? Sure. They do it all the time.

Make matches matter. Make the belts mean something. Give everyone something to do in the time you have.
That's not being like NXT, that's just what a wrestling program should actually be like.

I maintain that it isn't the size of the crowd that makes the difference-it's the booking. Put out a product that is fresh and entertaining and the crowd will react. Put out the same stuff over and over and the crowd will get bored. This is why nxt, in its current format will always be better than raw. We all get excited when someone or something new is happening in wrestling. Nxt is a constant stream of new stuff. As soon as the wrestler has nothing left to do, or stop getting a reaction, they either get fired or promoted (ascension are a great example of this). Run out of angles/opponents on raw? Tough, you make wwe money and have another 5 years on the clock to go. You've nowhere to go.

thinks that FUN is the primary theme of the product That's NXT's primary theme too. No Bayley, no buys. I can't read Bayleys name without hearing Jason Albert going on "awww man I love Barley I just wanna give her a big ol' hug!"

Bottom line: do things a little differently on RAw. Every now and then open a show with a match instead of having someone come to the ring to get on the mic. Every now and then have the main event match be something other than the usual four or five names. Heck, every now and then do a show where one or even a few of those usual names don't show up at all. And once in a while why not try having those usual names face someone else instead of each other over and over again. Just freshen the formula up a bit.

If I wasn't on the way to Tottenham (and hideously late for the match!) I would write a fairly big post defending the OP here. For many reasons, but one is that is very easy to go because he raises great, sane points in a sea of inconsistency.

I don't know if I fully agree with this sentiment. I do think Natalya and Charlotte wouldn't have been as big because the Divas division would need time to get people to think of it as more than just a bathroom break, as sad as it is. However I don't agree that NXT booking wouldn't translate well to RAW. Remember when they put Zayn and Neville against Breeze and Kidd with no real character development on the show for them? The crowd ended up getting into it and it stood out as something entirely different from the product that we're all used to.
There are some things that would only get over in NXT but I think the OP kind of neglects something. You can't just throw a gimmick like the Vaudvaillains on TV and expect it to get over because it was on NXT. Same thing with Emma and it'll be the same with Tyler Breeze. These are characters that grew with time and you almost have to press the reboot button. Emma debuted in a dance off and was never given time to be taken seriously before she just turned into a comedy figure. The problem isn't that you can't book RAW like NXT, the problem is that the people who write and produce RAW wouldn't understand NXT or how it got talent over. Look at the recent handling of Charlotte in her match with Natalya. The two tore it down on NXT, got a couple of minutes on RAW with Charlotte just imitating her father and losing. Outside of her entrance, none of that really felt like the Charlotte you see on NXT. The 18-22 audience should be the audience you're targeting because at this point, the audience you have now is going to stick with you forever with the drivel they get on a weekly basis. Even if it failed, I'd be for them at least trying.

Gotta say, it is absolutely baffling to me how NXT makes more use of the 1 hour that they have weekly than Raw does with the 3 hours that they are given. Even if you ignore the Creative side of things, that's pretty embarrassing for a weekly show that's been on for this long.

So you can't have your champions rarely ever lose and look important, whether they are the tag team, women's or world champion?
That doesn't seem like it would be too difficult.
