It would be entertaining to hear J.R. repeatedly calling Batista and Ric Flair Jezebels. But yeah, crazy double standards at work there.

The WWE did try keeping Lita a face for a while after the incident.
But The crowds constant booing and "you screwed Matt" chants every time she appeared are pretty much what forced the heel turn.

The heel turn saved Lita I think. She had just been dull and spinning her wheels for years from basically just being, "Oh, she's Jeff Hardy but with an extra X chromosome," and it let her break loose and show her charisma again like she had gotten to in the years before that. It's not like it was even a huge departure for her given she already was someone who tended to sexualize herself as it was, and she went from having jumped around between being involved with several different guys at points to staying with Edge for the entire rest of her career.
As for the Cryme Tyme thing... No problem with it, it's just an old school thing of a heel getting one last huge humiliation on their way out. It wasn't really that different from Jericho begging on his hands and knees for Bischoff's mercy then being carried out kicking and screaming by security. Then promptly having his exit glossed over for Kurt Angle randomly showing up to start off what might've been one of the worst feuds of all time.

Lita should have dropped a pipe bomb, and mocked and ridiculed the neckbeards for being so interested in her personal life.

The character assassination of Lita by the coward Vince McMahon.

I wasn't watching when the whole cheating and subsequent turning it into an angle happened. I just heard about and retroactively watched clips. But just from that, I stopped being a fan of her. Forget not liking her real life indiscretions, and just going by her onscreen persona; I thought she was way less attractive with all the extra make-up and the cleavage scene and sex celebration made me roll my eyes. I've just never really been a fan of hypersexual personas and storylines.

To be fair, when the Edge/Lita/Matt thing came out, people here were kinda up in arms about it as well. Demonizing Edge and Lita (Edge especially) and glorifying Matt. Then when Matt returned and attacked Edge, we thought we were in the dawning of the greatest angle in years. We marked out when Paul Heyman said, "Matt Freakin' Hardy" to Edge at One Night Stand.
But then, Matt goes off the deep end... wishing Edge would die in a car accident... really underperformed, showed a lack of maturity and overall inability to perform at the same level as Edge. At that point, people really started going away from the "Edge and Lita are assholes" thing and started to accept Edge as a legit heel and started genuinely liking his Rated-R character.
But yeah, Lita had so many STD jokes tossed at her... from here, mind you. Hindsight is 20/20, but let's not pretend we were taking the moral high-ground at the time.

Absolutely not. Lita is one of the only women in WWE history, especially recently, to be a compelling and over character as both a face and a heel. She should be just as proud of her hated later heel persona as she should be for her early babyface persona. She showed that a woman could be a talent that mattered and that the fans cared about.

When I lurked the board years ago around by that time, people were brutal towards Edge and Lita. Most of the harsher critics aren't here anymore but people gave them hell. Most of the Net were pro Matt Hardy and anti Edge/Lita which changed after Matt's moronic promo and Edge's rebuttal the following week. Then people started dickriding with Edge and took his side.

Before aligning with Edge. Lita was involved in one of the most idiotic angles involving rape, miscarriages and other nonsensical BS.
When WWE decided to scrap everything and put Edge and Lita together, it revitalized both their careers and for a good 18-24 months. They were the hottest act in wrestling.

Why was Lita placed into that dumb pregnancy angle anyway? I don't recall her being injured during mid 2004.

My question...what happens to Edge if he never has the affair? I imagine that he wouldn't have had the run that he did. Also, we wouldn't have gotten my favorite Edge promo: www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbpbHL0Ean0jesus christ, i forgot how good this was...

jesus christ, i forgot how good this was... Hot damn, I'd forgotten how much he just brutalizes Matt in that. Especially after the shit show the week before. I reckon it was this that made Vince decide to give Edge his ME push.

I didn't ever really love her as strongly as most others did (partly guilt by association - the Hardys bored me for the most part and I had no time nor interest in them) but I always respected the hell out of her, and recognised she was brilliant despite being firmly pro-Trish The beatdown from Austin and Triple H is one of the most impressive segments I can remember seeing from anyone - she takes some brutal looking shots from them, and makes them look proper evil bastards. Really superb work from her. I'd given-up on the product when she hooked-up with Edge, so I can't really comment on that.
