The segment would've been much better if the Authority were hoping those three would beat up Cena, which seemed like that's where they were headed but then they turn around and head after Steph and HHH, who looked worried and dart out the back and Show, Kane, Rollins, J&J, and whoever else come out to meet them and the show ends with a rumble on the ramp/stage.
Instead we end the first show of the year with the 4 top faces pouting.

I've joked before about bad WWE being a crappy office party with forced "fun" and people in charge so out of touch with the interests of the employees that its just an asinine and miserable experience. And tonight just continued that metaphor with various guys just standing there as their boss insulted them, treated them like crap, and mocked their value, because hey he's the boss, they're employees, and they have to take it. And if WWE were a gritty live action dramedy highlighting the dreary existence of so many within the corporate culture, (and in a darkly amusing note, a proper illustration of the current brand of courage in the WWE locker room) then I would have found tonight quite well done. That's what the Authority angle has been going for all along. People in power can do whatever the hell they want and will do things for people who kiss ass and sell their souls. Those who want to, you know, actually work/compete without that BS is out of luck. It's more realistic than you think. It may as well be "The Office" in wrestling gear. Ask someone who deals with a corporate environment and they'll recognize the Authority angle immediately.

Not to nitpick, but wasn't that a heel act at the time? Some fans may have liked it but it wasn't intended to get Orton over as a face. As for the Dolph, Rowan & Ryback, I'll wait to see what thier response is. It's safe to say we haven't seen the last of them. He was the heel but it made him really popular. In the same segment you had Jericho first getting fired and then getting bitch made of Steph and Vince making him begging. Point is the crowd cheers for guys who can stand up to themselves and face impossible odds. Plus, you know, his motivation (which made no sense, but still) was how Triple H had screwed him over time after time and he wanted to finally make him pay for it.

You do not even need a corporate environment, any sort of office based work rings true with this. I work in admin and often have to deal with work done by a sales team. The sales team get shorter work hours, higher pay and bonuses and incentives while admin get a flat pay with no overtime. This while management have a go at the sales team for shoddy work and all the extra stuff admin have to do to cover sales being completely worthless. I think every job on Earth has an equivalent for this.
