Honestly, I never quite got the "BYU won't play on Sunday's" statment. I mean, yeah, they won't... so they don't? Saturday is college football day, very few games are played on Sunday in a given week. The Big 12 Championship Game is historically a Saturday, the playoff games are on Saturdays, no Bowl game in 15-16 is on a Sunday, and the title game is on a Monday. BYU played in the NCAA tournament a few years ago, so it's not like they aren't willing to participate. I think it's a two part thing. One the institution is a religious one but my second point is that it is a unique thing that creates a mystique about the program and builds demand. It helps BYU look important and that is working.

No no, I'm not doubting that they prefer not to, I'm wondering why that'd be a deal breaker in terms of being a non-independent.

Right now they are on good ground as an independent. They have four power five games this year and Boise. They are doing a good job of accelerating to Notre Dame type independent. Their big games will be on national TV bc of the power five angle. They could partner with the Christian ministry cable stations to cover non-power five home games and make some coin (not NBC money but more than regional or super regional TV money). They can recruit internationally thru their missions and nationally due to exposure. So at the moment they don't need a major conference but are building a brand or rather strengthening their brand to where in five years they can be a coveted addition to say a PAC 16 or Big XII and perhaps be in a position where a would be conference might bend on the Sunday deal. Look at ND. They have the ACC scheduling agreement and it's one sided (almost). Hell at this point they could do a similar scheduling deal with either the PAC or Big XII like Notre Dame and remain independent.

I've been interpreting it as a reason why power conferences wouldn't look at BYU, but it does make sense that BYU just doesn't need them.

During a team meeting FSU head coach Jimbo Fisher banned his players from going to bars, according to Jim Henry of the Tallahassee Democrat.
This won't end badly

This won't end badly I would love to know what the penalty for violating this is? But you know what man, it won't even come to that. The legal club or the local branch of the ACLU will rush to the rescue and more young immature kids will have negative behavior reinforced

I mean no disrespect to South West Texas State University athletics, but Franchione pisses me off just reading his name. He bombed out at Bama, failed at A&M and now he enjoys a modicum of success at Texas State (SWTS forever!) and people kiss his rear. How does he do so well with underneath talent that couldn't or didn't go Big school but couldn't take big school talent and money and win? How? I thank him for beating Texas twice in a row after their national title win. But that man promised the moon and delivered a fart. Best of luck to him, but he can stay his old butt in San Marcos

I don't really care about Rice, SMU, UTEP or SWTS Edit: that sounded harsh. I mean that I don't care enough about the low data point quality opponents to follow who and when they play. I get riled up about UCLA, ASU, Notre Dame, Clemson down the road

Georgia listed redshirt sophomore Brice Ramsey as the starting QB in the school's first depth chart, but head coach Mark Richt says the competition is still open.
Former Miami redshirt junior T Taylor Gadbois will transfer to Southeast Louisiana.
Texas A&M defensive coordinator John Chavis has "simplified" the school's defensive scheme.
