So as we never got these on TV here in the UK, I'm currently working my way through WCW PPVs from the initial nWo era. Yesterday I watched Uncensored 1997. I wasn't expecting much as the Uncensored show was quite often a mess of unnecessary gimmick matches. But then it was time for Mortis vs Glacier. I never really thought much of Glacier other than he had a nice entrance and although he was more than decent in the ring, I never cared much about Kanyon (in any of his personas). It was billed as a "Martial Arts Match" and I thought it would be crap. And I was completely wrong. It was a really good back and forth 10 minute match that made both guys look great. When you think of the WCW undercard around this time, it seems we remember the likes of Malenko, Mysterio, Ultimo Dragon, Psycosis, Jericho etc. and with good reason as their undercard matches were arguably better than anything in the main events (wrestling wise, I don't think you could argue against that). And whilst Glacier/Kanyon was hardly Mysterio/Guerrero at Halloween Havoc, it was a fine match.
Any other lesser known matches you can recommend from this period? Or any period for that matter.

I've never seen it talked about much, but it's one of the matches that first made me fall in love with wrestling. Chris Jericho versus William Regal at Backlash 2001. It had a bit of everything. Two fantastic wrestlers, comedy aspects with Regal's amazing facial expressions, heel-face dynamics working perfectly as Jericho is foiled over and over, and some great commentary from Heyman/JR. First match I rewatched on the Network, and while I didn't remember the ending correctly, it definitely held up.

I've always really enjoyed Mick Foley verses Randy Orton from Backlash 2004.

From Slamboree 99, Benoit and Malenko vs Raven and Saturn vs Kidman and Rey Mysterio.
This match is an absolute classic on what is otherwise a terrible show.

Rumble match 1993. Watched on the Network and was shocked how stiff it was. Maybe it was just improved sound systems compared to then but you could hear guys lay into each other..... except Backlund, who was as soft as a Lance Storm chairshot.

Nobody else likes HHH vs Big Show from New Years Revolution 2006 but I think it's dope.

Rey Mysterio and Billy Kidman vs. The World's Greatest Tag Team at I believe Vengeance 2003 may be my favorite match of all time, but I never hear anybody talk about it.

I'm a big fan of Edge vs Orton from Vengeance 2004 and I don't give a hoot what anyone says about it.

Nobody else likes HHH vs Big Show from New Years Revolution 2006 but I think it's dope. Is that from when Triple H broke Big Show's hand and unwittingly gave him a hammerfist? That whole feud was incredible and I guess everyone was too deep in "f*** Triple H" mode at the time to give it the time of day.

If anything I strongly recommend the In Your House bluray the WWE put out last year. The host of the video Todd Pentingill put it best that those shows (In Your House) had some great matches that weren't on the grandest of stages and have been forgotten. There are a lot of really good matches on that set and Todd is really good as a host.

The first HBK v. Undertaker match at Ground Zero is really good, albeit a bit of a chaotic mess. Doesn't get talked about near as much as the HITC, and Wrestlemania matches that followed.

I have some pre-1990 suggestions for you if you want to take a look at some older stuff. WCCW Episode 54 has Flair vs Von Erich for the NWA Championship with Michael Hayes as special guest referee. It's a one match episode and takes you through the basics of the feud: network.wwe.com/video/v31314737Pat Patterson vs Sgt Slaughter in MSG 1981. Not as good as their street fight but this was part of the build up and a really great match: network.wwe.com/video/v31307211/milestone/31326319Bret Hart vs Randy Savage from SNME in 1987. One of my favourite matches on the Network featuring a in his prime Savage against an up and coming Bret Hart. Love this one: network.wwe.com/video/v33481033Speaking of SNME, there was a brilliant match on it between the Rockers and the Brainbusters (Arn Anderson/Tully Blanchard) from 1989. These two had a great mini-feud and it's a shame that they weren't given more time. They actually had an even better match at a Boston Garden show just after this that was on an old VHS but isn't on the Network yet. A different type of Rocker match here as they adapt to the Brainbusters more ground and pound based offense. network.wwe.com/video/v33481847

There was one Rockers/Brainbusters match from SNME that was pure awesomeness. It had a DQ finish but put a clean finish on it and it would have been a 5 star affair.
I have a standby match for this sort of thread: Rob Van Dam vs. Jerry Lynn from ECW on TNN, circa Sept. 1999. ECW Arena. I haven't seen it in years but I thought it was a breathtaking instant classic with crowd heat the likes of which you've never seen. This would be the match where Lynn had taped ribs from an Impact Players attack. Not as well known as some of their other matches on PPV, but this one is a classic and possibly RVD's best singles match.
