(Please pardon incoming wall of text and don't take my username as bias. )
With all of the talk since the Royal Rumble of who should be a top guy between Reigns and Bryan; who should get this push to the main event of WrestleMania Play Button, I say why not Dean Ambrose?
I don't think he should necessarily get the current mega push of facing Brock Lesnar and defeating him, after all Brock's accomplished in the past year, as much as I'd love it.
I'm saying if Vince is dead set on having ONE guy at the top of the mountain at any point, it should be Ambrose. Don't get me wrong; I'm of the belief as much anyone that Daniel Bryan needs to be treated as a legitimate top star and rightly deserved to win the Royal Rumble and should be a mainstay at the top for as long he can go. But, barring that, what makes Reigns any more worthy than Ambrose for a top position?
They're the same size and Ambrose is considered attractive by a nice percentage of the audience. It doesn't mean much, but go to tumblr and you'll see exactly what I'm talking about. Those are some creepy posts in there lol. Reigns doesn't have any more potential than Ambrose, hell he has even less. Ambrose is a proven talent. He has been wrestling for a decade and built up a small but dedicated following. He was even endorsed by one of the top guys in CM Punk when Ambrose was still in FCW as being "WWE's secret weapon". That's no small praise.
What does Reigns have that Ambrose doesn't? Reigns is green as a four leaf clover and only started in wrestling a few years ago, so I don't see where this "proven" b.s. has come from regarding Vince putting him in this spot. Reigns started his WWE career as a third wheel mute in a stable and only broke from that last summer and then got injured and had to go away. He has about as much future potential of being a big deal as any other unproven guy and there are much better options to choose from in that small pool of choices. I don't see any "big time potential" with Reigns with him having done sweet f*** all to impress or improve. He's actually regressed from his work as the "muscle" of The Shield, which wasn't anything special to begin with. Which having been said, none of that is his fault, which is the worse part of it.
Ambrose on the other hand has been perfecting his craft for years before making it to WWE and came in as a near complete package wrestler. There was little, if nothing needed to be done to him to make him work in a mainstream wrestling environment. He is the best mic worker in WWE since Stone Cold and The Rock called it quits years ago. He is actually believable as a character, and is very natural in his work. He has a Stone Cold quality to him as a babyface and a Terry Funk quality as a heel. You take all of that into account and you add in his immense popularity and you've got everything you could want in a top-tier wrestler.
Why dick around and sit around waiting for something that may not even happen, when you've got everything you need right in front of you, right now?
