Possible hint to the NX or console after to be digital download only Even as someone who downloads most of my games these days (don't think I've bought a game physically since Smash Bros. U, and the last one before that was probably Pokemon Y), I think that's really stupid.

Also didn't this whole digital download/exclusive to one console stuff almost burn Microsoft with the Xbox One? Before they changed that of course.

Seriously why is Zombi U being ported now and to the systems they are being ported to? They did drop the U from the name from what I understand. They probably just figure there's some money to be milked out of porting it to consoles people actually, y'know, own. On another note, I've been exposed to the wrestler minigame from Rhythm Heaven and now I want to get that game.

Not really...the idea of no used game and being forced to connect to the internet all the time in order to uses the system is what almost killed the xbox one, not digital download/exclusive.

As far as the rumor goes, I think it's pretty dumb to not provide physical copies, especially when you realize that the companies can remove the ability to download the files even if you bought the rights, whereas a physical copy is something you can keep and access.

If Nintendo can create an ecosystem that can compete with discounted prices in stores, lets you "trade-in" games that you don't want anymore, and adds enough storage in the NX itself to make digital download-only feasible, I'd have no problem with not having a disc drive. The fact that these things probably won't happen is why I'm unsure about this.

That would be one hell of a leap in progress for Nintendo, seeing how NoA is releasing Fatal Frame as an eShop exclusive.......the game has a 16GB file size........and it's eShop-only on the Wii U in North America.......... That pretty much limits the audience for the game in this region to those with external hard drives plugged into their Wii U.

This is feasible, but I also think it would be more worthwhile to encourage people to buy digital by offering it as both a cheaper alternative (a $10 savings on average) and allows you to buy it before physical copies come out. As of now, it's not that practical.

Giving people incentives to buy online is absolutely the way to go, but you almost have to accept that retailers aren't going to be happy for digital distribution to really work for games.

Retailers aren't going to want to stock the system if they go that route. It takes up inventory and why would they have something in their inventory that encourages making them less money.

There's compromises that could be made. Maybe instead of traditional games, Nintendo uses a form of those cards you can buy in stores with codes on the back similar to what PlayStation Plus uses. You'd be buying them from a store and they'd actually take up less space than disc-based games would on the shelf.
